BUG SF 16 adding marker then dragging audio to new window always crash

Chad-Raney wrote on 12/27/2022, 1:24 PM

I am chopping some audio for a client and have a file about 12mb in size. Mono, 48k 24bit. Every time I add a marker, rename the marker and then drag the selected audio out of the original file to make a new sample SF 16 (latest build) freezes and crashes. I have not tried on a different file yet as I am just trying to get this done for the client first.

Here are my exact steps to replicate. add marker (using M key), right click marker choose rename, rename anything you want. Save file (because crash happens so I learned to save after each marker). Click and drag a section to select, drag selected section out of original window to make a new file. BOOM! small freeze and crash every time.

Which version of SF-16 (Audio Studio or Pro)?
Do different file formats (MP3 and PCM WAVE) cause the same behavior?
Have you tried copy and paste to a new file? (which does not cause a crash SFP. I have not tried Audio Studio.
Do you have Sound Forge in single or multi-instance mode? ('multi' is the default).
Is the 'Drag and drop editing' option set to Mix or Paste? (It think Mix is the default

drag selected section out of original window to make a new file

Drag it to where? When I drag a file from the timeline, a pop-up dialog states "the file is already open" . But I have SF set to single-instance if that has anything to do with it.

btw, Seasons Greetings and welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Chad-Raney.

Everything like drag and drop and such is default.

Does not do it on the same file as mp3 and the file is a PCM. Here's an interesting one. Saved the file as mp3, tried to replicate, nothing. Closed mp3 file. went to open original file to see if copy and paste to a new file would make a difference. SF Crashed, though this time bringing up a crash report to fill out. And it's Pro, not AS.
