Broken sound every 2 seconds during all playback

I'm new to this program but old hat at computers.

I'm running a CMedia USB external surround sound device off a Toshiba laptop with an i7 processor.

All playback - during recording, during demo playback, etc - is interrupts for a split second about every 2 seconds like clockwork. I tried reinstalling the latest version 28.0.2.47 and patches, and checked playback settings (sound both set for CDQ (44100) playback.

I'm trying to generate some keyboard long tones to overlay on some music I'm working on and can't shake the interrupts.

Anyone have any ideas? I have absolutely no other sound problems, just with music maker.

Dear @William-Hall,

please check your audio settings. I would recommend to use an ASIO driver. If you already have selected the ASIO driver, please check for updates of the driver. You could also try to use another ASIO buffer size. If you have drop outs, you should consider using a bigger buffer size.
