Hi, i recently purchased the magix Rescue Yor Vinyl & Tapes 2013 with a usb phono pre-amp. My problem occurs when im trying to record a vinyl in magix audio cleaning lab, i have a stanton t.62 turntable connected to the phono pre amp+grounded and switch on mm. on the other side i have the switch on phono and the usb cable going to my computer. I have the filter dc offset on and Db is 0. When i try to record i have to have the volyme on absolute minimum to be able to record in stereo, if i move the slider it will only play sound from 1 channel. If i select mono in recording options it records 2 channels and i can use the volyme slider, but both channels are in mono. I wanna be able to record in stereo so i can use the automatic balance adjustment, the pre-amp kinda works when i have the volyme in the absolute minimum level, but the recording volyme is also in total minimum so the pre-amp kinda loses its meaning. I also tried switching computers and the same problem occured. Is my pre-amp broken or am i just missing somekinda setting!?

my setup: win7 64bit, realtek high definition sound, hdd space 1terrbyte, 16gb ram, quadqore cpu. magix acl 2013+usb phono pre-amp, stanton t.62 direct drive turntable

If im missing some information that would be helpfull to solve this problem please tell me and i post it.

All help will be appreciated!!!

Hi,

This took a little digging, but (great turntable by the way)  You did not mention which cartridge you are using, but if you are using the Stanton 500 V3, it has a moving magnet coil which produces an output voltage (nominal) of 4.6 mV.  The preamp currently advertised by Magix is the Hama PA005USB.  It has a MM and MC switch which if you do have the Stanton Cartridge I mentioned per the Hamma manual needs to be in the MM position.  Maximum input voltage on the Hama product is 38 mV so you are not likely overdriving the preamp, but Hama gives no minimum input specs on the product so I can't really tell if the cartridge has enough output to drive the preamp.  If you are using it in MC mode you are below the maximum threshold of 22 mV but the amplification is going to be  32 db versus 29 db in MM mode.  I would just try the mode that you are not using and if that does not work, either you have a defective USB preamp, a defective cartridge, or a cartridge that this device simply cannot handle.

The Hama device, just so you know is not a audiophile type device.  It is kind of in the lower end of the preamp world.  There are many higher end phono preamps out there that have a much broader range of adjustments than this product which really has just a MM/MC switch with really no level control.  From what I see it is really designed for an average inexpensive turntable that has a pretty average cartridge with little or no level requirements.

Sorry, probably not the answer that you wanted to hear, but that is how I see it.
