Brand New Music Maker Premium Install

Joseph-Bradley wrote on 1/30/2020, 8:47 AM

During installation yesterday, 1/29/20, I was not given an option of drive for the installation. It installed on my primary hard drive which is C:\ on my computer. I wanted it to go to my drive that I use for all my music software etc. Is there a way to get the installation to a different drive? If not, I will make do as it is. Just wondering.

Welcome to the Magix forums.

By default the program will install to C:\Program Files (x86)\... but you have the option to NOT use the default settings. It is a long time since I did this but I think you are given an option, quite early in the install process, to use "Custom" settings. Once you have selected this option, you can decide on to which drive the program installs; on my computer it is on a dedicated Programs drive, D:\

BUT it is not advisable to install the "support" files (soundpools, instruments etc.,) anywhere other than the program's default locations.

Yes, you were given the option.

  1. During installation, on the Welcome screen, you should have clicked on "Change default settings."
  2. That takes you to the Installation options screen where you could have changed the installation location and the locations of Templates and Effects, Soundpools, and User files.

I suggest that you leave the program files, Templates and Effects in C, as that is the best place for them.

Now that the program is installed, I suggest that you go into the Program Settings, File Locations and change the settings for Soundpools and User Files to another drive. User Files should be under My Documents, which, I presume, you don't have on your C drive.

Then move the Soundpools folder to the new location. In MusicMaker, you will probably then need to rescan the Soundpools - Program settings, General options, bottom right. And you may need to add Soundpools by clicking on the gear in the Loops tab.

Thanks. That is unfortunate. Most installers, I am used to at least, ask this question overtly. No big deal. Thanks for thia tip for moving the soundpools. That is really what I was concerned about mostly anyway.
