Magix Video Pro X Version 18.0.1.82 (UDP3) on a Windows 10 Pro PC. Every time we start the program the box in the picture opens. We have reinstalled the program and all of the components listed but the box won't go away. Any ideas?
I remember checking that I would like it to check for new addons when I installed it and mine does this also. I wish I had not checked it, BUT It goes away after I cancel it.
You can close the box by cancel or the X but it comes back every time you start the program. The program works fine it is just an glitch maybe, definitely an aggravation.
It shows that they are all installed every time with a new date each time, like it installs them every time you open the program. It actually won't let you click any of them because they are installed all you can do is cancel out of it. Here is a pic from tonight with the whole window and notice they all say today for the date of installation.
Nice machine build. I take it it is recent. Really decent specs. You should put that information in Clell's signature (available to add in his profile section.) and it will help with future enquiries you may have.
You could be correct or maybe VPX hasn't yet settled down with it's housekeeping. There was a warning notice on the recent versions that the program needs time to settle down after it is closed for the first few times. Up to a couple of hours before you switch off. If the computer is switched off before the housekeeping finishes it starts all over again the next time VPX is used. I have no idea what the 'housekeeping' is exactly but is does involve those files.
The only other thing I would check if it was a prebuilt machine is that all the drivers for the machine (Graphics card and Intel drivers etc.) are up to date. That can be done safely with the Intel Driver and support assistant downloaded from the Intel site. Not sure that will help much in this instance but it is best to keep everything up to date except bios if you don't know how to do that safely.
Otherwise I don't see anything wrong at this point beyond my comments above.
[Edit] I do see that the latest Windows 10 build is 19041.423.
When we first got this PC we updated every thing possible except the bios (as you say that is not something to play with even tho this motherboard does have a 2 bios chips 1 for backup in case you need it). After everything was updated we then installed the VPX. We have other computers that the 2004 windows has come up for update but this one hasn't yet. And not sure we want it until the bugs are out of it. We put it on two of our work computers and one of our main programs for work would not even start up and we had to revert it back to the previous version. We then started reading about the 2004 Windows Update and think we will wait until it's out a little longer and safer. I did call support on the program that wouldn't start and they told me how to restart the SQL server which was the problem on it but still want to wait before we go that route.
Also tried the reset to defaults that John recommended to no avail.
Guess we're just going to have to keep cancelling until we figure it out.
You are running an Asus motherboard. You can use the ASUS EZ Update program to safely update the motherboards bios from within Windows and this is the way I do my bios updates. You can find the information here.
The Windows 2004 has had at least three updates since it first came out so I don't know if that problem has been fixed or not.
Which other program did not work?
I find it interesting you mention SQL server. I have suspected it has been responsible for two of my third party effects from opening after they initially worked. I still haven't found an answer to that problem yet despite uninstalling and re-installing the offending plug-ins.
I know others here have not been able to replicate my problems and may have little to do with your own but I find your reference to it a little disturbing and more than a coincidence.
. . . . I did call support on the program that wouldn't start and they told me how to restart the SQL server which was the problem on it . . . .
Which 'SQL Server' are you referring to? To avoid confusion it is best to quote the full name of the SQL database:
'SQL Server' is taken to be Microsoft SQL Server. @CubeAce - you will not have this installed on your PC.
The database installed by some Magix software and is the Firebird SQL Server Magix Edition for real time storage of a projects editing decisions, objects used etc - the project file is actually the database backup - this works fine on Windows 10 2004.
The SQL Server problem at work (I can't remember exactly which version it is right now) was with our AutoGlass POS program which is our main business. Kelly in tech support told me how to restart it, my notes are at work tho. I can post that tomorrow maybe while I'm at work, it might help you Ray.
How often do you change your bios btw, I think there is an update available for ours, we might venture there when we get brave lol.
Thanks for the clarification that would be Microsoft SQL Server so I assme you comment re Windows 10 2004 and SQL Server was a side issue you had concernig Window 10 2004 and was not a culprit in the Video Pro X issue.
I am assuming this is your first install with Video Pro X is this correct?
If so the same issue has arisen on my laptop - Windows 10 2004, after doing a clean re-install after an unrelated issue with the previous install of VPX 12 18.0.1.77 - the new install download was 18.0.1.82.
My PC install of VPX 12 is also 18.0.1.82, however this was a patch update from 18.0.1.77 and it woks fine - no popup asking to install the extras.
After comparing the 2 installations and other testing, I believe this issue may be a bug that has been introduced into the 18.0.1.82 download currently available from Magix.
Please raise a support ticket through the Support link at the top of the page - the SQL Server issue is not relevant to the VPX issue.
At the Asus Site page I gave you, if you download the tool and run it, it will tell you if there is a bios update or not. Asus suggests only to do this if you find the PC is having difficulties running some programs or peripherals and not to bother if everything is running OK. Updates do not occur that often unless the manufacturer finds something that needs fixing or updating to allow the motherboard to run either a new CPU using the same socket or a change in something like a new drive system or to fix a flaw they previously were not aware of.
Sometimes an older program can be coaxed into working correctly by using the Windows Compatibility Mode where it is made to run as if it were on say a Window 7 or 8 machine. That only needs to be done once for any given program giving a problem. Again click the link I gave above for more information.
Correct John the SQL Server is not an issue with VPX it was just a side note to do with the new 2004 Windows that was brought up that was a problem on a computer at work. This is a new first installation on this new PC I will have check the version when I get home I would guess it is the latest and if that's the issue I will pursue that. Thanks.
Ray as far as the SQL Server restart the directions I have are to go to the search box and type Services then to the SQL Server (your program) and start service. There will be more than 1 SQL server there but there should one just for the program you are having issues with and it will have your program in parentheses after it and that is the one you want to start. Hope that helps.

The SQL Server on your PC is very specific type of database for your business software and is unlikely to be found on most Magix users computers, unless they are running some business software that requires it..
Movie Edit Pro and VPX do use a database for editing - you will see it installed as Firebird SQL Server - Magix Edition.

Here is their answer, we'll try it tonight and see:

Two suggestions, 1) Name it Magix Updater to make it easier to find instead of hiding it. 2) Let users opt in or out when installing with a question like "Do you want to receive frequent and annoying notifications to buy something else?"
Unfortunately your suggestions will not reach Magix - this is a user to user forum not Magix Support.
With respect to your comments:
The program updater is already called Updater and must not be un-installed..
The issue the OP was having is nothing to do with the News option, nor the 'annoying' popup that has been called various names over the years which is also used for connecting to the Cloud and transfer of video/images from Camera MX (Android app).
The feature has is now called Magix Cloud, previous names were Update Notifier, Magix Connect or Connect, and Magix Network Sync depend on the age of the installed software - this feature can be uninstalled.
If you are getting the Installation Manager popup loading after starting the program, the solution is here - although this is for Movie Edit Pro it also applies to Video Pro X.
