blurry still images in exported movie !

jhon-d wrote on 3/6/2016, 3:37 AM

hello all ,

i'm using mep 2016 plus .

i made a movie with some 640X480 video clips , and still images.
the movie looks fine in the editing preview monitor.

however, when i export\render the movie (MP4 h.264 640X480 resolution) , and play it with external player, the still images became blurry. the videos looks ok though.
when i render to a higher resolution (like 1080p) ,the still images look ok but i want to render to 640X480 (because my video clips are 640X480)

how can i fix that ?
thanks.

Hi

Try increasing the sharpness setting under Effects, Movie Effects settings menu as shown below

A setting between 40 and 60 produces reasonable sharpening without adverse effects.

In the mpeg export dialog ensure you have the Apply anti-interlace filter option checked.

Viewing a 640 x 480 video at a higher resolution eg full screen on a 1920 x 1080 monitor or TV is going to appear blocky / blurry due to the lack of pixels in the video - it will only be 'sharp' when viewed at 640 x 480.

If you need higher resolution eg for HD TV and there are more images then video try ie picture in picture as shown below - this will ensure the images are at their best and maintain the video sharpness.

thanks for your answer.

i find that if i uncheck the "Apply anti-interlace filter" option - the problem is gone.

Hi

. . . . i find that if i uncheck the "Apply anti-interlace filter" option - the problem is gone . . . .

Interesting - I find the opposite with the still images from my cameras.

What was the source of the images and are they highly compressed?

@John EB,

I found the same as jhon-d with some photos. With the ainti-interlace option checked, the images were blurry, unchecked, fine. I mentioned this in another post recently. I was going to post the images but didn't get around to it.

If I find time tonight,I'll hunt them down. Time is limited today and tomorrow; in a moment of weakness, I accepted to do some real work.
