Blurring a Section Only

nirvanray wrote on 4/9/2013, 5:47 AM

Dear Friends,
I would like to blur only a particular part of the image or video (Like the picture attached in this question---the blur is in the bottom left). Is there any way?
I don’t want the Swing Tilt effect as it covers many parts of blur.
Please help and regards.

Hey Anirban,

we can use a mask like what we have written about earlier.

Place the picture or film on track 1 and an identic copy on track 3.

Select tr. 1 and give it a strong blur (F. ex. Effects > Video Eff. > Distortion > Sand

Find a suitable mask (or make your own in a photo program), place it on track 2, and click Alpha at Chroma key.

That's all !

Cheers Andreas

why isn't this possible loading the mask effect on that particular scene? (whithout duplicating the scene on a lower track)

it seems that the only video effect possible whith mask effect is color/color correction.

so i'd like to blurr a section of the scene with a mask effect but it doesn't work unless I duplicate it and place an aplpha mask between the tracks.

@Highballblog

That wouldn't give a blur effect, it would reduce the relative opacity..

You can do it without duplicating the original, using the Effects Masks feature of MEP. See my tutorial at
http://www.magix.info/uk/how-to-use-effect-masks-in-movie-edit-pro.online-training.858837.html

However, I find it more intuitive to use the 'duplication plus mask' method described by Andreas. That way I can more easily understand what's going on.

Presumably highballblog lost interest, or solved the problem and didn't bother to tell us.
