Blu-Ray Burning Speeds

jak.willis wrote on 1/3/2016, 4:39 PM

I have a 13-14 minute video that I am burning to a 25GB 2x BD-RE disc using Magix Movie Edit Pro 2015 Premium, however I am finding that the whole burning process is taking a very long time. The first thing it does when I click on burn is it "mixes down" and that is taking a long long time. Does anyone know why it is taking so long and whether or not there is anything I need to do to make the process quicker?

Hi

. . . . "mixes down" and that is taking a long long time. . . . .

The time taken to mix down can vary considerably depending on many factors..

The main factors which affect this are:

  • Your computer specification

  • Using Harware Acceleration

  • The degree of complexity of the project timeline

  • The use of effects which are not hardware accelerated

We need more information on the following:

  1. Computer specification

  2. Windows version

  3. A screen shot of the timeline - crop so only the timeline is visible

Hi,

Well, the specs are as follows: Manufacturer is Zoostorm, processor is intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2320 CPU @ 3.00GHz. Installed memory (RAM) 6.00 GB, System type, 64-bit Operating System. And the Windows version is Windows 7.

Hi

Thanks for the specs.

How long?

With the computer specification you have given, I would expect this to take up to 2 hours including burning to disc.

Check that you have the following settings checked:

As an aside - if your movie is less than 25 - 30 mins long you can burn Blu-Ray to a standard DVD disc eg DVD-R and it will play in BD players.

Hi again,

Thanks for your help so far. I looked on the settings and found that Hardware acceleration wasn't checked so I have checked it now. Will having that checked make a difference at all? And is it normal for my computer to take up to 2 hours to encode and burn to a Blu-Ray disc?

Hi

. . . . And is it normal for my computer to take up to 2 hours to encode and burn to a Blu-Ray disc? . . . .

Apologies should have made the time taken a little clearer - the 2 hrs refers to encoding and burning the 13 - 14 minute movie.

The time taken depends upon the factors I previously posted and you can expect it to take up to 4 - 8 times the length of the movie on the timeline, the factor which causes the biggest difference for a given length of movie is the complexity on the timeline.

For example on my computer:

This project

        hires version here

- mainly video with crossfades and simple transitions, audio track, took 2.3 x the project length to burn to BD

This project

       hires version here

- video and images, 2 complex collages, complex transitions, audio track, took 4x the project length to burn to BD
