I have started recording some of my vinyl record collection to put on my iPod. I am using Audio Cleaning Lab 16 Deluxe. I would like to know if the way I am doing this is the best. It works but it is time consuming taking about 35-45 minutes to record and 30-45 minutes to clean it up. This is my process;
o Record both sides - I'm using the tape out on my receiver and a Tascam US-144 Audio Interface with USB to laptop. No problems here.
o Check/adjust track markers and remove any unwanted silence from beginning/end of tracks.
o Split into separate objects for each song.
o add album/song info in the CD Track list/ID3 editor.
o Select each object and use the step-by-step method to clean using mostly just the DeClicker and DeCrackler. I have found that the Automatic method can cause distortion of the track by setting those to the maximum 100%. Using the step-by-step method you can adjust the level by listening to the Difference and making sure it is only Clicks and Crackles that are removed and not part of the song.
o I don't do any additional Mastering. Should I?
o Export project to MP3 using the maximum 320Kbps setting.
The ones I've done so far sound good, but would like to know if I can be doing it better/faster.
Thanks!
Gary
