Basic caption question

Hi Guys, im new to this software. i have a failry basic request:

All I am really doing when creating videos is just pasting clips together in sequence, and I would like to be able to add text comments as we go.

But the problem I have is, lets say I import a clip that is 5 minutes long, I select "title" then add some text I want to show at the start of this clip, but then i want to add some text 2 minuters later and another piece of text 1 minute before the end, clicking title again just edits the existing one, and putting the marker on another part of the clip and adding title there ends up sitting on top of the first text. Regardless of where I tried to put it.

Is there another way I should be doing it?

Also I have found one oddity, when I import a clip, I am given an option whether to change the frame rate and resolution or not, if I ever try and re-use that clip within the application, even in a brand new project I never see that option again. Last night I added a clip, changed the frame rate to match the project but it was very juddery so I deleted it and tried to re-add it perserving the frame rate but I could not do it, I had to  copy and rename the avi clip and start a new project to see this option again.

Hi and welcome to the Magix Community Forum,

1. Place the playback marker where you want the new title. Select the clip. Click on the scissors or shortcut T to split the clip. Select the clip that has no title. Put your title on it. You can also move titles around. Another way is to copy an object like a title by selecting it, holding down the Control key and dragging the title to a new location; you will be dragging the title. Then change the text.

2. When you open a project, you should set the parameters on the startup screen, including PAL or NTSC, frame rate and resolution. Alternatively, you can do this in the movie by opening the Project settings, shortcut E and changing the setup for the movie. You should match the settings with your output and then adjust any incoming clips to suit the movie. If you go the other way, the movie settings will be changed.

3. Since you are new, you should take a look at my tutorial on getting started in MEP to make sure that you have everything.

Hi

. . . . I select "title" then add some text I want to show at the start of this clip, but then i want to add some text 2 minuters later and another piece of text 1 minute before the end, clicking title again just edits the existing one . . . .

This happens because the last title you entered has not been deselected on the timeline.

If you position the timeline marker at the point where you want the next title to appear then left click once on the Preview monitor a new title object will be created at that point on the timeline, the only downside to this is that you have to reposition the text to where you want it to be on the screen.

. . . . Another way is to copy an object like a title by selecting it, holding down the Control key and dragging the title to a new location; you will be dragging the title. Then change the text. . . . .

Is the best way if you want the same font, colour and text size and in the same vertical position (if you enter the same number of lines of text) - the width and horizontal position should automatically adjust itself depending on the amount of text entered.
