Bad Crumb???

SGE wrote on 10/10/2019, 3:58 PM

Just installed SF 3 Mac. and all I get is a dialog box "Bad Crumb" Press OK and it closes the Program. Ideas?

Tech support is non-existent. The number 1.775.562.0528 rings for 5min and then rapid busy. The contact link at the bottom of this page brings you to an error page. Time to call American Express to get a refund if I don't hear back soon.

Hi there,

This issue seems to be one of many issues related to Catalina, and OS compatibility issues with legacy applications sadly resulting from this latest macOS iteration.

As discussed in the other thread, please get in touch with our dedicated SOUND FORGE support team, and they will see what they can do for you at this point in time:

Cheers!

I contacted the support team and there is nothing they can do until the company updates Sound Forge so it can be used with OS Catalina. Ironically Magix sent email about new products to upgrade to but it doesn't support Catalina.

When can we expect your program to be compatible?

For heaven's sake, produce a patch or something. Catalina wasn't a surprise. Quality companies anticipate.

  • Bad crumb or just crummy.

Here was the response I got and no, I bought just a couple weeks prior and if I wanted a different program I would have bought it. To their credit they did refund me. I miss Sony. Unreal.

"Thank you for writing us.  Unfortunately, your purchase of Sound Forge Pro Mac 3 is over two years old, and the program itself is no longer supported.  We would be happy to exchange this program for you, but a refund is not possible at this point.  If there is another program (like Vegas, Acid Pro) that you wish to have, we would be happy to set that up for you.  Thank you and have a great day."

I ended up getting Parallels and installing Windows 10 so I could use SF13 so the got my money anyway.

It took years from Magix to produce Sound Forge for Mac...months for it to go wrong...and now years again to fix.

Won't you come home Sony?

BOQR wrote on 11/15/2019, 2:36 PM

Hmm.. I wish I would have known this before I upgraded 😡

I am not happy... after waiting for months to buy the new 16" MBP, I ordered it on release day with the expectation to use it for all of my production needs. I have the same Bad Crumb Error... Is there any plan on fixing this, or do I need to abandon Sound Forge once and for all and look for an alternative?

Same situation here... I just upgraded to Catalina, and SF stopped working.

If I wanted Vegas Pro or Acid Pro, I would have upgraded my version of them. But with this, I'm done with Magix. I always worried that Magix was a second-rate company, but their acquiring the Sony products represented a huge step forward, it seemed--into the big leagues. But now, wow. I'm done. Too much other good software out there to have to deal with this kind of event. Sound Forge was my go-to. It was excellent.

Magix,

Are you guys dumb? You have a revenue enhancement opportunity that you are throwing in the trash. If you fix the Catalina issues and sell it as Sound Forge Pro Mac 4, you can get $50 from all of the existing Mac users wanting to continue using the product. This is a no brainer. Minimal effort, increase in revenue, just fix what is necessary for Catalina and call it a new version. No other new enhancements. You could even farm out these changes to China or India to minimize your costs. Then you can also sell the "new version" to new users for even more $$$$$. Come on already.....

This is what they replied (4/23/2020) to my support request regarding Sound Forge Pro Mac and Catalina.

"Greetings from Sound Forge Support,
Thank you for contacting us.  Unfortunately, at this time there is no clear answer to what the future of Sound Forge Pro Mac will be.  There are no plans in the foreseeable future to update the program to be compatible with Catalina, and it is hard to say whether or not the Mac line will continue at all.  I apologize for the inconvenience of this and we thank you for your time and understanding."

I have been using SF since 1995 (Sonic Foundry) on Windows. I thought Magix was going to keep going forward with the Mac version making it as good as the Windows one but I guest I was wrong.

fprstudio wrote on 5/6/2020, 9:43 AM

One way to run it is to install macOS Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, etc. as a virtual machine using Parallels or VMware Fusion. This is a workaround until Magix decides whether or not the Mac line will continue🤔🤔🤔

I have tested it today with Parallels and it works!!!. I installed Sound Forge Pro for Mac in Mojave virtual machine and also installed the driver for my sound card. Here is a link to a video explaining how to do it.

Uhm... sure.

It is now 2022 and I'm assuming there's no fix for this still?

SP. wrote on 4/2/2022, 3:59 AM

@Daniel-Toomey No, there is no fix and development on Mac OS was stopped.

Ruud-Franken wrote on 4/18/2022, 5:14 AM

I bought Soundforge Pro Mac 3 approx 3 years ago.
It did not work (bad crump error). Reported it, but got no proper solution (I don't want to downgrade my iMac to an older OS, or use the Bootcamp solution).
A few days ago I was surprised to find Soundforge Pro Mac 3 on the Magix site. Hoping it would be a new version I installed the trial version. But no, the same "Bad crump" error.
I must admit that the specs mention: **Currently NOT compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15.x, macOS Big Sur 11.x or newer versions of macOS.
Why does Magix still offer this product for outdated Mac-systems?
And why not working on a solution for thousands of users who are waiting for it.
Apart from a lot of users who paid for the Mac version that does not work!

emmrecs wrote on 4/18/2022, 5:26 AM

The official MAGIX response to this question is pinned here.

They have decided that there will be no further updates to this version of SF, it seems.

Hence, since that is their decision there is really little point in this thread, with apologies to all who have posted here. So, I am going to close it.
