Automatically time stretched samples?

Jay-Viper wrote on 3/12/2021, 8:10 AM

Im using Acid Music Studio 11 and trying to edit up a wav file of speech and Chopper only allows me to cut on the marks of each beat or measure. When I cut the samples up elsewhere and import them they are all time stretched and unusable.

I only installed this yesterday so just getting my head around it.

If somene can explain either or both of these problems I would be very grateful 🙏

Hey @Jay-Viper

If you've dragged an audio file on to your timeline and it's beatmapped already (which would be odd, but ok), and you don't want it to be you can disabled it by right clicking on the event clip, select CLIP PROPERTIES. In the Clip Properties window, change the ACID TYPE to One-Shot.

You may find it's easier to just chop samples up on the timeline. I can't say in the all my years using Acid that I have ever used the chopper! :) So, with a event clip on the timeline you can cut it at any point by clicking your cursor on to the event clip and hitting the S key. If you need to be more precise than the grid squares on the timeline you can either zoom in (scroll wheel on your mouse), or disable snapping to grid (Options->Snapping->Enable, or F8 to toggle)

I've noticed that some longer .wav files have markers in them even if they aren't official Sony/Magix samples, but it's weirdly inconsistent.

Also is there a sequencer you would recommend to put my own beats in? I have some decent 1 shot samples etc that would be ideal for sequencer. Really surprised this package hasn't got one to be fair.

There are a ton of free sequencers out there. If you want something granular and super-powerful, the MPC Beats software works as a VST plugin, and gives you a lot of control over the samples you're using. If you want something simpler, Sitala is a decent, basic sequencer that works both as a stand-alone program and as a plug-in.

I'm cheap, so I quite like the loop cloud client. it's free, and actually has a fairly capable sequencer built in as well as being a great front end for purchasing samples / sample packs and stupid prices.

Yeah Sheppo I forgot to use the word free ha ha. I'm only making stuff for fun so free stuff all day. Tell me more my friend.....

Oh dude, I just checked out Loopcloud. It is honestly ridiculous what it offers. I saw something about a limited-time trial, is it actually free???

the app itself is free. it's been a year since i last looked at it, and it was essentially a basic sequencer with basic plugins. I believe they've added more technical stuff in to it since then.

you pay for samples and sample packs.. I think I might have had a trial or paid for a month or something, but I can still access all the content and the app today. Oh, it looks like you're limited to two tracks in the editor on free tier. :-(
