'Automatic check failed' trying to update old Movie Edit Pro

MovieSL wrote on 9/12/2023, 11:14 AM

Hello, I'm using Movie Edit Pro 2015. Yes, I know it's old, but I own it :-) I have installed and registered it on my new PC but the update process fails every time with 'Automatic check failed'. I have version 14.0.0.160 installed and the latest is 14.0.0.187. How do I get that? Can I download it directly somewhere? Thanks

@MovieSL

Hi,

I have MEP2015 Premium and see the same thing as you, including 14.0.0.160. I have no idea why I didn't update at the time.

The notice that there was a patch available did not pop up upon opening the program, which maybe why I didn't update at the time.

Checking what is new in this update shows everything from patches most patches but, strangely, 160 is not shown.

Here is the information from patches 162 to 187:

Important changes in version 14.0.0.187

* New: Connect – Stay up to date with the latest information on MAGIX products, offers, coupons and more
* Small corrections made in the effects area

Important changes in version 14.0.0.183

* Fixed crashes in specific situations
* Made corrections to reduce aborted encoding with hardware acceleration
* Fixed stability problems with some Decklink devices

Important changes in version 14.0.0.176

* Improvements in validation process (license verification)

Important changes in version 14.0.0.172

* Magic Bullet plug-in no longer generates green images
* Fixed image stabilization problems with Mercalli 2.0
* Corrections made to various export presets to improve quality and prevent encoding from aborting
* Fixed sound problems when playing videos on Apple devices (Online Export)
* Fixed problems with locked tracks
* Fixed display of titles with Chinese and Japanese characters
* Corrections made to Dutch and Russian translations

Important changes in version 14.0.0.166

* Fixed sporadic crashes caused by stopping playback
* Improved jog wheel, volume control, template mode, media pool, memory card import, audio effects, video effects, plug-in support and keyframe control
* Fixed mixing error in specific picture-in-picture constructs
* Adjusted license verification for a more user-friendly program experience
* Improved import compatability
* MP4 Simple Profile support via Quicktime and DirectShow codes such as Haali Mediasplitter
* Optimized various MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 encoder presets

Important changes in version 14.0.0.162

* Fix: Image stabilization was not saving correctly to project in some instances
* Improvements to templates for material with unusual aspect ratios
* Handling improvements movie templates
* small bug fixes to exports
* Various text and language adjustments
* Fixed problem of thumbnails disappearing from the source view in memory card import dialog
* Playback stabilization for projects with image material
* Fixed DirectSound playback problems
* Fixed some small problems when using transitions
* Support for Ogg files with thumbnails in meta data

You may want to try to raise a ticket with Magix advising them that the patch doesn't work. However, they may not be receptive as it is now quite old and beyond support.

Hi

In Windows, Internet options, Advanced tab check that all the TLS connection protocols are turned on.

Windows may have the older TLS protocols 1.1 and 1.2 IIRC, turned off.

@browj2 I've sent you a PM with a patch link I was sent by support. Great support for such an old program 👍👍

@MovieSL

Hi,

Definitely great support!

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure that it will work as I have Premium, not Plus. I may give it a try.

Thanks,
