Auido/Midi Headphone issues

Spencer-McVey wrote on 4/4/2020, 11:18 PM

I am new to Magix, I just got the Covid-19 Humble Bundle which included the Music Maker, so I figured I'd try it out. I am able to hear everything except for the Midi keyboard in my Music Maker app. I am not sure why, but when I have default settings, I am able to hear the midi keyboard through my PC speakers only, but I am unable to switch to my headphones, I have the audio going through direct sound with my headphones as the selected audio playback, and I can hear the loops and instruments but if I play the midi keyboard it won't play while I play, I can record it and then play it back but I can't hear it while it's playing. Playing through my speakers might not be a huge problem, except for the fact that for some reason when I play through my regular PC speakers it sounds extremely choppy and laggy. I've tried a lot of things to get it to work, but maybe someone can suggest something I don't know about yet? I am also using HyperX Cloud Orbit 3D headphones, I'm not sure if it matters, I have tried other headphones as well and they also do not work. Thanks.

Did you try using the magix low latency audio driver in your program settings? If this doesn't work, it is recommended to use an audio interface for realtime audio production.

@Spencer-McVey

Hi,

Go to the Program Settings, Audio/Midi tab, and switch to an ASIO driver or WASAPI. You can change the output destination here as well. Music Maker's instruments require an ASIO driver.

@browj2

I have tried switching to ASIO driver and WASAPI and I can't even hear the music, including the midi keyboard. When I do Wave and Direct sound they work for hearing the music but not when I play the Midi. I'll add some screenshots of my settings to see if you can point out a problem I might not be seeing.

It looks like your headphones are not compatible with ASIO drivers.

@SP. What about the advanced options? On the right there's another window open, WDM Device list, that has my headphones listed and I have them as the selected option? Does it need to have a specific hardware like you said in your first comment, I need an audio interface?

@Spencer-McVey

Hi

Using the HyperX Cloud Orbit headphones cable with the 3.5mm plugs, can you hear the audio when the drivers are set to the Magix low latency set?

Also check that your sound card is set to mute the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

Are you connecting your headphones via USB to your computer or via audio jack? Maybe try connecting it via audio jack in combination with magix low latency.

An audio interface will help with the choppy and lagging sound when you play and record because it helps the computers CPU with realtime audio calculation, but it is only needed if the magix low latency driver or an ASIO4ALL driver (which you could also test, but you need to download it from the internet) can't help.

@johnebaker @SP. That worked! Thank you guys!

Open "Program settings (P)" via the small gear icon. Select the "Audio/MIDI" tab in the Program settings. In the "Audio playback" section click on the "Advanced..." button. All your PC audio output devices should be listed in the pop up window. Your headphones should be listed. Select small button to the right of your prefered output device and it should now work.

I did notice but what I posted is different and dose not require download of a different driver. Just because the person that originally posted got their answer dose not mean that someone else with this same issues may find what I posted to be a more useful solution.
