Audio Sync Issues with AVCHD file movie edit pro plus 2015

peter7769 wrote on 9/21/2014, 1:45 AM

Hi all

i have just purchased movie edit pro plus 2015 and have an audio sync issue, i have an AVCHD file (M2ts) that plays fine in windows meda player and vlc player, yet when i load it into Movie Edit the lip sync goes way out, even if i just play it in the main window.

i know i can adjust the audio/video offset but surely i shouldnt have to do this with a file that plays fine in other media players?

Please can someone advise.

Thanks Pete

Hi.  I use AVCHD files quite extensively (though in VPX5) but don't see this problem.

However, depending on the spec of your computer you may need to allow MEP to create the proxy files in order to be able to edit this HD footage (I assume MEP 2015 Plus does/can create such proxies.)

So, what is the spec of your computer?

Hi

I am currently using AVCHD files in MEP 2015 and have no issues with lip syncing.

What is the source of the AVCHD files and their audio sample rate?

@ emmrecs - yes MEP 2015 does create proxies.

Sorry, i have only just seen your replies as i wasnt notified!!

i will get all the details in the next few days and post them here, but just to say i have tried 3 or 4 different mkv & avchd files and all with the same result, the only way i can use them at the moment is by converting them to mp4 and then importing them, then they work fine.

Hi

I have been testing conversion of some test MKV files to mp4 and I am not getting any lipsync issues with MEP 2015 - using Nero 12 Recode.

I have issues trying to convert to MTS using AVS Recoder with incorrect video length being reported.

What are you using for converting the files?

MEP 2015 can handle MKV files directly if you have the appropriate codec installed, when I import a MKV direct to the timeline I get an error message 'no codec installed'.

Hi John

Yeah you are correct when I convert mkv to mp4 I don't get any lip sync problems either, but if I convert mkv to say m2ts or other HD versions I get lip sync problems.

I am using VSO video converter for the conversion process but have also tried other programs too but not Nero though.

When I try and import an mkv file the program just freezes and says not responding, I don't get any codec errors, is there a particular codec that should be installed? Bearing in mind that these mkv files play in all the media players that I've got installed and they play within the conversion programs I've tried.

Thanks Pete

Hi

I don't know if you have the patches installed as per my post yesterday but 14.0.0.153 does list "improved AVCHD import" as one of the fixes. These lists of changes from Magix are usually very non specific so it may help.

Bear in mind that even though these media players come with codecs included, MEP can not necessarily access them.

Also I would check the encoder settings in the converter program because the Media info is showing that the "frame rate mode = variable" indicating maybe this is some kind of streaming format which MEP can not handle. Media Info should report an actual FPS.

If the frame rate is varying then who knows how well the audio will keep sync in MEP.

Thanks, i installed the patches this morning but still the same result, i have just checked on the vso converter and it doesnt say anything about streaming, i just says to convert to convert to AVCHD 1080p ?

Does that sound correct?

Further Upate

i have just conveted an mkv file using nero video to an AVCHD file and loaded it into Movie Edit, this time there was no lip sync problems, it played perefectly so it seems that nero does something to it that the vso video converter doesnt, now if only i can figure out why MKV files wont load into the program without it freezing up?

peter7769 wrote on 9/30/2014, 3:55 PM

please dont reply to this post, i have stopped using the program and have asked for a refund

Thanks

I have been using Movie Edit Pro for years and also had regular sound Synch issues with AVCHD files.

Solution is to 'recreate frame table' option for the entire video - then all sound synch issues vanish.

I have just updated to the latest version of Movie Edit Pro 2015 Plus and am testing WITHOUT 'recreating frame table' to see if Magix has finally fixed the issue. Will report back tomorrow.

OK

As mentioned before, I have been using MEP for years and have always had the audio synch problems with AVCHD video files (I do use 5.1 audio)- my solution was to always 'recreate frame tables' and the issue would be fixed.

I have just downloaded to MEP 2015 (with all the updates) and was curious if they had done some work with the synch issues.

I created a huge video file as I have done in the past - DID NOT DO 'recreate frame table' and the audio synch issues were gone !!!! (only took 4 generation of MEP to resolve)

No more need to recreate frame tables saves a LOT of time for me.

Thank you  MAGIX - your program is now excellent!!!

(anyone having lip synch issues needs to use the 'recreate frame tables' option in the pull down menus)
