Audio Studio 16 using MP3

Zell wrote on 4/2/2022, 4:20 AM

When saving a wav file as an mp3 I get the message "error opening codec." I haven't seen a separate link for activating the .mp3 codec, which I'm guessing is the problem (unless the codec wound up in the wrong directory). I've already tried uninstalling Audio Studio and reinstalling it. Same result. I am running Windows 7.

@Zell Have you tried to not install the program into the program files folder? I would suggest to install it into C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Magix

Activating the MP3 codec is done automatically. However Magix software products need to phone home every now and then to verify some codec licenses, so the PC needs to be connected to the internet occasionally if it is an off-line PC.

Otherwise, "Reset and clear cached data" has been known to fix MP3 issues. The command is in the 'File' menu., then close and restart Sound Forge.

I would suggest to install it into C:\Users\YourWindowsUsername\Magix

I have not heard of this before and I do know if it works.

btw, welcome to the Magix Sound Forge users community @Zell.

Thank you! I tried all of the above but still couldn't get it to open the mp3 CODEC - however...I think it may have to do with the fact I'm running this on Win 7 Service Pack 1 and version 16 may have an issue with that. I re-installed Audio Studio version 15 and that seems to be working fine.

@Zell

Hi

. . . . Win 7 Service Pack 1 and version 16 may have an issue with that . . . .

The system requirements for SFAS 16 clearly state Windows 10 or 11, Windows 7 is not supported.
