Audio playback is slow/stuttering

Lumyith wrote on 5/4/2021, 2:35 PM

Hey so I found myself in a rut and I'm unsure of how to get out of it; whether it may be a me problem, a computer problem, or something else but I thought the quickest way to get an answer is to ask.

So I'm very new to the software (Free version atm) and only downloaded it within the day to get a feel for it but I've noticed that any playback for audio, whether it's within the store tab, loops tab, or even the timeline itself, it ends up having a very slow, almost pausey playback like it hasn't rendered what it wants to play. I've looked at other forums with similar issues but still can't seem to get it working right, I have more than enough room on my HDD, and my PC can handle a lot more beefer programs for animation but I'll put down what it is below.

If anyone can help out then you'd be a legend <3

PC -

  • Corsair 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR4 Vengeance LPX
  • Corsair Force MP510 240GB M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen3
  • MSI X570-A PRO AM4 ATX Desktop Motherboard
  • ASUS GeForce RTX2060 Super Dual OC V2 8GB
  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 3.6Ghz 8 Core 16 Thread AM4

@Lumyith Your PC has a high end graphics card which explains it's power for animation software but I don't see a high end sound card in your list. Your mainboard has just a low quality Realtek audio chip that is not enough for real-time audio processing. You can try to make the buffer size much bigger in the driver settings and the program settings. This can help but will introduce latency.

I would suggest you should try an external audio interface with ASIO drivers. They start cheap at about $100 with something like a Focusrite Scarlet Solo and go up to high end graphic card prices like $950 for something like the RME Babyface Pro.

@Lumyith

Hello, Welcome

Have you updated to the latest onboard audio drivers by going directly to RealTek's website and download or if you have Soundcard do similar go to cards website and update driver?

Is the Audio format 16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)

Have you tried Right-click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the computer screen and select Troubleshoot sound problems.

Hi

. . . . Audio playback is slow/stuttering . . . .

I had a similar issue with MMM 2021 - try doubling the size of the audio buffers in the program settings and checks the other settings are as shown in the image below:

@SP.

Makes sense; I ended up getting it to work without upgrading it but I'll definetly look into getting an external audio interface if I want to continue pursuing any of this, I'll definetly keep your reccomendation in mind too. Thanks my dude.

@PATIENT-X

I went through and updated it all just to be sure but still didn't end up working unfortunately; also it didn't seem to find any issues during the troubleshoot though thank you for reminding me to do it.

@johnebaker

Ahh bless your socks John! It worked; I already had it at the levels you did so I tried uping them a little more and that did the trick. It's all smooth sailing now but thank you so much <3
