When I try to play or edit MTs files in magix movie edit pro i cannot hear the sound. Even when I try to work on previous projects when I load them onto the timeline all the audio s gone except for the music I added. It's just the MTs files.
My windows 10 crashed and I had to reinstall it. Then I had to reinstall magix movie edit pro, since then a lot of .my previous projects won't open properly on the timeline. It says path not found. If a project does open I cannot hear the audio on the MTs files.
Exactly which version and variant of MEP do you have?
What is the format of the audio in the files which no longer have sound? If you're not sure, download the free MediaInfo utility, point it to one of those files and post here the results of the Text view.
Hi Jeff, the software is magic movie edit pro 2017 plus, the audio format ionnan MTs file is AC-3 codec or uncompressed linear PCM audio that's the only description I can find. All the video was filmed on a Panasonic avchd camera.
Now there's another issue, when I try to open magix movie edit pro the message I get is, sorry internal error, no project info Pl.cpp line:2124. Looks like it's getting more complicated.
Please give us the full MediaInfo data on one of those files, as previously requested. I suspect the problem may be being caused by the fact they are actually recorded with multiple channels and Windows support for the codec needed to play them has been withdrawn.
The MTs files play perfectly in Windows 10, I also downloaded a trial version of magix movie edit 2021 premium and all the MTs files play perfectly with the audio. So it looks like the problem is with my existing magix editing software.
When I click on clip in magix movie edit pro it says , "an expansion package is needed in order to use this audio feature.. Do you want to download the expansion package for free now". When I click download nothing happens
The details I asked for would fully confirm this (hint, hint!!), but the presence of that message and the fact that MEP 2021 can play the files certainly strongly indicates this is the issue that older versions of MEP cannot handle videos with multiple audio channels, i.e. "Surround Sound".
I'm not sure how to get the details you asked for, but I'll try. MEP was working perfectly only 3 days ago before windows 10 crashed the problem only came when I reinstalled MEP.
I find what your asking for a bit difficult, it happend before but I was able to get the sound back by changing stereo to surround. Do you know what the problem maybe, or what happened.
Thank you Jeff. I ran MEP as administrator, then I downloaded an update. So I have got audio in the MTs clips, but every time I click on a clip the message comes up "an expansion package is needed in order to use the audio feature. Do you want to download the expansion package for free". Now" if I click on download or cancel the audio will play, but I have to keep doing this.for every clip.

The feature that MEP is wanting to download is the Dolby Surround Sound decoder which is no longer available for the older versions of MEP as @emmrecs commented above, and you are going to have to click it every time you load a file .
Is the video from a Canon or Sony camera?
For future video recording I would suggest you change the audio settings in the camera to use AAC audio format if possible.
Do note: though MEP 2021 can import the video with no issue you cannot create a disc or export to MP4 or AVCHD file format with audio in the AC3 Stereo or Surround Sound formats.
The video is from the Panasonic tm900 camera, I'm not sure if it is possible to change audio settings in a camera, is that possible? So it looks like my MEP 2017 will be very frustrating to use. I did export MTS files to MP4 file in the trial version 2021 MEP with no audio issues, was the audio format changed automatically?
Thank you John. I don't understand how the MTs clips can play the audio if the Dolby surround sound decoder is no longer available.even if I click on cancel instead of download the audio plays..if the sound is there how come I have click the box every time.
The problem for us fellow users with problems like your one is we can't try to replicate the problem without an original file to test on our own systems. It could be a problem with the program or something different in the operating system or the file. It's difficult to pinpoint without having the same file to work on.
Thank you Ray, there are so many variables. The software should continue to give all the features that one pays for, not that suddenly a feature disappears and the program becomes unusable, problems should be easier to solve. Looks like I'll have to buy the latest version.
In all fairness to Magix or any software developer, all the terms and conditions of the program are laid out in the end users License agreements. People should really read them. Support for a given software product only normally lasts the products lifespan and stops when a new version is released. Changes in an operating system like Windows 10 often means bits of code in existing programs have to be updated in order to continue working. That no longer happens when a new version comes out. The same can happen with supported codecs. Rival companies can sometimes withdraw support or change their terms and conditions to another developer. In this instance Dolby labs may have asked too much for the use of their packages for Magix to consider continuing to offer it. It could also be possible that Win 10 has changed enough to prevent MEP 2017 from functioning properly as it was never designed to work with Direct X 12. The end users never get to know the whys of such things.
Yes your right Ray, you explained it well I got good use out of MEP, so I'll purchase the latest version. If I one goes with Adobe premiere you'll be paying a subscription, so overall MEP is good value.
Magix MEP can be thought of as a type of subscription if you want the program to keep up to date but at least the upgrade costs, if kept up, are much cheaper.
As Win10 will constantly evolve as an operating system it would make sense to keep the program up to date as well as the hardware as Win 10 updates can not be permanently delayed.
I'm not necessarily a fan of online authentication as a means of user purchase either but would prefer the use of license dongles in case the company supplying the program ever went bust but that is just possibly me.
This for better or worse will be the model of future computing in my opinion.
