Audio Device Settings

Jeremy-Wooten wrote on 10/9/2020, 7:24 AM

Okay, probably a dumb question, But when I select my audio interface in the audio/Midi tab in the settings to record audio, I can not figure out how to get the Playback to come from my speakers and not ported back to the interface. I have the recording options by the record button set to the interface as well, but if I set the output device in the main Audio/Midi tab to anything other than my audio interfaces ASIO all i get is nothing or static when trying to record from the interface. Is there no way to set different input and output devices? I would like to hear the playback through my computer speakers while recording the audio input with my audio interface in a nutshell. Is this possible?

@Jeremy-Wooten

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Short answer to your question: No, sorry!

This is one of the very few real limitations of using an ASIO driver. The ASIO specification, as devised by its originators, Steinberg, allows for only one device to be both input and output.

However, assuming you are using the MAGX Low Latency ASIO driver, on that Audio/MIDI tab, click the "Advanced" button. On the screen that then opens, bottom right hand corner, you should see a "Spanner" icon, click it. On the next screen, check to see whether you can select your speakers as the output, whilst still maintaining your current input. Warning: this is NOT guaranteed to work!

This works for me

Hi

These are the settings that work for me - try them.

If you have a different audio card is should still have a similar range of options as shown in the blue highlighted section of the image.

When recording you select the recording source in the Recording dialog not in the above in settings.

For recording from your sound card you are recording from an Analog source, the options available should be Mic and Line in, however if you want to record from another audio source eg Media Player then this is not possible using the ASIO drivers.

Okay so, I tried both of the aforementioned suggestions. With the magix low latency ASIO I used the wrench to assign my interface as the input the speakers as the output. The effect was the speakers worked but the interface recording did not because the interface was not available as a selectable option in the recording dialog. Also side note, the magix ASIO completely screws up sounds for my entire computer when it is in use in Magix even after exiting the program, no clue what that is about but it is rather annoying. Like I can hear in magix but to bring up a youtube video or hear people in discord is impossible if I don't set the ASIO back to my interface before exiting the program. So THEN i tried assigning the speakers as my default speaker device my interface as my default recording device using my interfaces ASIO. Same problem but in reverse. The interface records great but the speakers do nothing. I'm at a loss. In audacity i can easily set interface as in, speakers as out and it works fine. No idea why I can't in an obviously more advanced program like magix.

Hi

. . . . the interface recording did not because the interface was not available as a selectable option in the recording dialog . . . .

What is the audio interface - internal audio card, if so which one, or external \USB eg FocusRite etc?

What is it you are trying to record - microphone, instrument input or what?

. . . . the magix ASIO completely screws up sounds for my entire computer when it is in use in Magix even after exiting the program, no clue what that is about but it is rather annoying. . . .

That is how ASIO works - it takes total control of the sound card for Low Latency.

After exiting the program check if the software is still running a process in Task Manager it may be doing some behind the scenes housekeeping, when this occurs it can take up to 15 - 20 mins before it has finished.

. . . . i tried assigning the speakers as my default speaker device my interface as my default recording device using my interfaces ASIO. Same problem but in reverse. The interface records great but the speakers do nothing. I'm at a loss . . . .

Did you disarm the track ie turn off AUDIOREC before playing back? This you must do otherwise you hear nothing that was recorded.

I had all kind of problem with MMM but not this. I always got my external audio interface Focusrite working well on the program. And use my midi keyboard controller as well. Both were recognized quickly. But could never save the configuration.

Hello,

sorry if this is answered here. But maybe i do not understand. When I have opened MMM and behind this, i have opened Analog Lab4 - separately as a different running program. I want to record sound coming from Analog to MMM. I have external sond card Audient ID4. I have tried a lot of settings but nothing works for me. I am lost. Please help me.

This is the setting of Analog Lab4

This is setting of Magix low latency

This is the setting of MMM

Please what combinations of changes should i set up that it will work. Thank you really lot.

@Lubomir-Rabatin

Assuming you have at least Music Maker Plus, i.e.not the Free version, why do you not use your Analog Lab4 as a VSTi directly in Music Maker. You need to ensure that the .dll file for it is placed in whatever folder you have designated for MM to find and be able to use your VSTs and VSTis.

What you seem to be trying to do is really very difficult because you need to route the Audio outputs, not MIDI, of your Analog Lab 4 to two Audio inputs on your Audient interface. Assuming you then have MM set to correctly record Audio transmitted by the Audient, it should work. But I can see no way in which the audio output of the synth can be made accessible and routable to the Audient.

Hi,

yes i have MMM premium - latest 2021 version. This is very strange what happened now :)

I added VST (Analog Lab4) to MMM one mounth before. In that time i saw in MMM one icon Analog Lab4 (VST3) which does not work. When i opened it i saw only white page.

Now, few minutes ago i refresh the plugin path to VST instruments in MMM and there appears another icon Analog Lab4 - this works now. That is perfect :) and thank you for reminder of this :)

There is now only one small issue with which i can live now (because i am not playing live) but :) .......when i am playing in Analog Lab4 which is opened through MMM, there are sometimes problems with latency (i hear cracks sometimes). Do you know please, what is the best set up of sample rate and buffer size for MMM to minimaze the latency. Now i have everything set up to sample rate 44,1 and buffer size to 512. What do you think please? Thank you.

Hi

. . . . Now i have everything set up to sample rate 44,1 and buffer size to 512 . . .

To eliminate the popping and crackling I found it necessary to increase the buffer sizes not reduce them. By reducing them the processor is trying to render the audio almost in real time and the crackling is caused by it not being able to keep up with rendering process, this will be very obvious if effects have been applied.

The sizes that work for me consistently are:

Multitarck size: 32768

Preview size: 16384
