Audio cutting out early after being exported

Daemonslayer wrote on 8/21/2020, 2:20 AM

Hey all, im trying to make a montage. The clips i import to video pro have audio, on top of that I am putting some of their base audio in as a background. While in the editer all of the audio plays correctly and on time, with no delays or interrupts, and no other weird things. After exporting (I have tried 2 formats so far, has happened on both, I also tried just lengthening the audios themselves to no avail)(I am using MP4) the audio goes too quickly and ends about 2 minutes earlier than it should. This results in gunfire at random times, and the last few minutes of the video just being in silence.

Has anyone encountered this before and knows a fix? any tips/tricks? Help would be greatly appreciated!

@Daemonslayer

Hi and welcome to the forum

We need more information- computer specification, Windows version and Video Pro X version number - see this topic for more details.

Additionally :

  1. What is the source of the video files ie Video camera, DSLR, Mobile device etc?

  2. Are the video files all from the same source? Can you analyse one of them with MediaInfo and post the results from the Text view

  3. What is the total length of the project as on the timeline?

  4. Is all audio shorter than the video or just the 'base audio'?

Video Pro X version 17.0.3.68 i think

windows 10
running a Geforce RTX 2070S
AMD Ryzen 7 2700X 8-core, 16 processors

32GB ram
1-2. Recorded gameplay, all are MP4 format, results will be below

3. total length of the montage is 05:19:01 (5min,19sec,1milisec)
4. all audio, thought it might just be the audio from the clips i put into the editer but i removed the audio from said clips to test that, even the background music cut out earlier than it was supposed to.

I tried to upload the video as well so you could see it for yourself and hear the desync, but it did not seem to want to work

The picture is of the mediainfo of one of the video clips I put into the montage

Hi

Thanks for the quick response.

The video analysed looks the be OK - check some more and look for the line in the Video section Frame rate mode:

In the example you posted above it it set to Constant, if any of then say Variable they may be the cause of the issue Video Pro X (VPX), like many other video editors, do not like Variable frame rate video.

. . . . total length of the montage is 05:19:01 (5min,19sec,1milisec) . . . .

Video time is minimum unit is a frame not milliseconds - you can see this if you step through a clip - the last 2 digits of counter will cycle from 00 to 29 for video at 30 frames per second.

. . . . all audio, thought it might just be the audio from the clips . . .

Is this audio from the clips or another source? If another source what format(s) are they in and can you post a MediaInfo analysis of one of them?

You have not mentioned the VPX version number, I should also have asked earlier, which export preset are you using and are any of the settings being changed?

@johnebaker
Only setting I changed on export is the framerate, after a popup told me I needed to so it would fit the video.
Believe the viersion of Video Pro X should be top of my last comment
The audio clips that I am inputting that arent directly part of the clips im putting together are from (i believe) the basic set of audio clips that came with either this program or one of this companion programs for music production.. the "papanui" "charleston" "song soccer 01" type ones

On the note of variable frame rate I, after looking through all the clips that I have uploaded as part of the montage, do seem to have a NUMBER of variable frame rate mode videos, seem to be all of the ones recorded before a certain date (I guess I changed a setting on the recording software after that). How likely is it that those are causing the issue? And is there any way you know of to fix them so that it does not cause an issue?

Attached is a mediainfo of one of the songs I am using, in case that would be causing the issue either. Attached is also my export settings, as they were from the first time I tried exporting(other than FPS)

I apologize for my lack of knowledge in these areas, This is one of my first stints into video editing so I am slightly lost.

Hi.

I hope John doesn't mind me butting in.

First, you will probably be better off starting the project again as settings have already been made that can't easily be undone.

Second, It would be best to convert any variable frame rate video clips you are to put into VPX to constant frame rate clips using a free downloadable program called HandBrake before putting them into the project. It is one of two things that could be causing the audio sync problem.

The additional sound files should not be a problem.

Last, if you have any warning dialogues about changing frame rates, ignore them. That could be the second cause.

See if that works rendering a partial part of the new project before continuing to finish it.

Ray.

Thanks for all the help guys, upon starting a new project and using handbrake to make them all constant the audio was correctly lined up with all the clips!
