Audio Cleaning Lab 15 not working?

Aquaduct wrote on 4/10/2010, 11:39 AM
Have just bought Audio Cleaning Lab 15 deluxe to run on XP. Try to connect as follows: RCA audio leads (supplied) from tape out on music centre to pre-amp. Then from line in on preamp to line in on PC. Does not work. Tried audio leads direct from record player to preamp then again single mini jack from pre amp to line on PC. Again not working. Where am I going wrong?? Why does it have a usb lead. Have read instructions but seem to conflict. Thanks in advance

To my knowledge Audio Cleaning Lab does not come with cables or a pre-amp.  Are you sure you don't mean "Rescue Your Vinyl & Tapes"?

First of all, the pre-amp is ONLY for recording vinyl records on a turntable.

Second, the turntable goes to the INPUT on the preamp.  The preamp OUTPUT goes to the Line IN on the computer.

To record tapes, the "Tape Out" (or Line Out, Output, etc.) on the tape deck should be connected directly to the Line IN on your computer.

BTW....DO NOT connect the speaker outputs on your stereo system to the pre-amp or the Line IN on your computer.

Again....the pre-amp is NOT to be connected to any device other than a TURNTABLE !!!!  DO NOT plug any other device into the pre-amp !

I don't have access to the instructions that come with the product, but the diagrams in the online documentation clearly show this.

The pre-amp is a PHONO pre-amp.  Its ONLY purpose is to boost the weak signal from the turntable cartridge to a level that is usable for other devices, like a stereo (amp), tape deck, computer (Line IN), or PA amp.

The phono pre-amp also adjusts the signal from the turntable cartidge according to the RIAA curve.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIAA_equalization

To feed a signal from any other source, other than a turntable, into the pre-amp will likely cause distortion at the very least and could damage the pre-amp and any other component(s) down the line.

"Seems to be ok now. Only thing now is that I can't hear the music via pc speakers."

If you can't hear anything... what makes you think it "Seems to be OK now"?

Hi there,

open the program and depress the letter R. Make sure you have the recording window in advanced, then click on Soundcard settings, then choose monitor input...

That should do it.

Cheers,

Thanks Procyon, I get your point re the turntable & preamp. Reason "seems OK" is because I had the stero speakers linked to the hi-fi. Will adjust settings as suggested by M o' L which will hopefully allow me to hear the recording AND avoid using the hi-fi. Again the reason for my confusion was the that the diagrams & instructions do not match the preamp. Thanks.
