Audio Buzzing/Crackling | Please Help

BryceCee wrote on 11/20/2022, 8:49 AM

So im using the Magix Movie Edit Pro 2018 steam edition. I used to never have this problem but now everytime i got to edit a video, the playback audio is just consitently buzzing/crackling. i tried to change the buffer size(up and down), i've changed the Sample Rate, and nothing works. even after exporting it doesnt work. my PC is pretty strong and im just lost on how to fix it. ive also thrown my videos into a free editing software and theres no problems with audio, it seems to only be with the Magix Software im using. when i also play my videos back they sound good until i put them into editing. Im uploading an example of what it sounds like and this is also a clip thats been exported through the editing software. if anybody can help it'll be very appreciated

Hi.

Just happened to be on the site.

Well that's one problem it's not. (Free enough hard drive space)

I thought that might be a problem as you said it never used to be a problem and you are using the same version of the software.

Things to check.

How much physical system ram do you have?

That any SATA drives in use are de-fragmented. That the drives containing the project files are not close to full. (10GBs of free space minimum) The drives should not be using compression of any kind for file storage or on the main C: drive.

That any graphics drivers are up to date and that the current graphics card in use has the latest drivers. Some older graphics cards no longer get driver updates and can cause problems. That is essential if you are on Windows10. Do not rely on Windows to report you have the latest available drivers. Always look at the appropriate vendors website.

I'm making these suggestions over other suggestions you may see me make on other forum topics as your audio is suffering a staccato effect throughout and sounds very similar to buffer under-run. But you have already tried to alter your buffer lengths and samples.

[Edit]

Do not allocate more virtual memory than you have physical memory. That can cause problems.

Ray.

Also check that a Windows update has not changed your audio chips settings on inputs or outputs. That happens from time to time.

Hi.

im going to check it out right now, and to answer your question. my ram is a little overkill. im running 64GB of ram and i have an RTX 3070 ti. and which drive do you recommend for me to try and manually update that may help?

Nope.

As it turns out @Marc-Goder asking for the MediaInfo from the file was a good call.

The problem is the video file is using a variable frame rate and the frame rate varies a lot in this one. From around six frames a second to one hundred and sixty four. The problem is the program doesn't know how many frames to either take away of add at any one spot to produce the constant stated average frame rate of 60 frames per second the file alludes to. These programs were really meant for video camera editing and not game play of proprietary video files from smart phone manufacturers who only use that type of encoding to save memory card space on their devices or hard drive space from gamers who can spend hours / days gaming.

Fortunately programs like Handbrake can convert such files to a constant frame rate so they can be used in most video editors.

I think that is your best bet. Either that or change the settings in your screen recorder.

Ray.

Hi.

im going to check it out right now, and to answer your question. my ram is a little overkill. im running 64GB of ram and i have an RTX 3070 ti. and which drive do you recommend for me to try and manually update that may help?

Ray.

yeah i tried to throw it in handbreak like you said and it didnt work, then i tried to change the settings to 1080p with 60 fps and it still doesnt work, i think it just may be time to get a new editing software if magix ususally focuses on camera recording editing. i appreciate you for helping Ray

Did you also export the file with the other software and there were no sound problems and no offset of picture and sound ?

Maximum frame rate                      : 164.234 FPS

This is very bad.

It is Very bad on a single drive computer even with an SSD drive.

Converting to Constant Framerate, and recoding the audio, does give some minor improvement - I used Handbrake, though still not good enough.

So far the best option is still to the export audio as previously advised.

I am going to report this as a bug as there is more to this then just the video file framerate issue you are having.

Hi Marc.

The audio bit rate change is also a good catch. Something I have never seen before but will assume that drops with volume change as opposed to time passing. It is still being recorded at a constant frame rate though.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

What is your suspicion if you don't mind sharing? I am assuming that @BryceCee is using a 165hz display panel to get this amount of frame variation in the recording.

@BryceCee

Hi Bryce.

At some point Magix is going to have to confront and fix this or lose market share as more people use smart phones now than camcorders and want software to edit on. But to be fair even Adobe is having some problems reported on their website associated with this problem and that is by far the widest frame rate variation from such screen capture software that I have seen to date.

Out of interest, apart from the awful audio you get when you export a file, is the length of the file the exact same as the original file used?

Hi Ray

. . . . assume that drops with volume change as opposed to time passing . . . .

Or for the same reason as for video - the less information to encode the higher the compression, now if the thunder was a full orchestra in full swing the bitrate it could be very different.

At the moment I would prefer not to share - I am still doing testing to confirm my suspicions.

. . . . use smart phones now than camcorders  . . . .

IMHO smart phones are OK for Tik-Tok, Facebook, sending to othe mobile users etc, however for anything else the correct tool for the job is my mantra.

Sportscam ( 😉 ) for sport action videos, and a camcorder appropriate to the final consumer or commercial usage

Hi John.

Or for the same reason as for video - the less information to encode the higher the compression, now if the thunder was a full orchestra in full swing the bitrate it could be very different.

You could be right. AAC is far more complex and capable than mp3 and also so much additional detail flagged within that could be misread I assume. I don't even know what each suffix represents and the coding is now beyond my capacity to understand. So I understand your reluctance to speculate.

While I tend to agree with your overall view about video quality we have now reached the what was the mp3 'Good enough' equivalent of video for the masses who are not making documentaries for TV. All they want is to see all the detail, background and all very sharp, but even now with machine learning and phones outselling computers it won't be long before they can replicate a passing Bokeh that is 'good enough'. The main thing that is missing apart from depth of field from most enthusiast footage is the correct amount and placement of additional lighting which is both understandable and impossible without the use of a production crew. We are already seeing the effect on the market for 'proper' camcorder models as sales volumes fall and prices rise due to lower volumes being produced per run. the same as 10 bit colour depth is now 'good enough' and phones can do that as well.

My DSLR produces much better 4k footage (and HD) than my Osmo Pocket in all light levels and has better focus tracking ability but rarely gets used as it needs a steadycam or floatcam to get footage as smooth looking as a camera with built in gimbal stability which makes it super heavy in use and because of lens motor noise needs the mic placement some distance away as well as being shock mounted. Using internal pixel shift or lens stabilisation doesn't work for panning in such cameras because it hold onto the focus area selected for as long as possible before locking on to the next focus point alongside, producing a sideways 'stutter'. Hence turning those features off and using a steadycam gives much better panning results.

But the weight of all that just make me want to leave it all at home.

To buy a really good camcorder now with interchangeable lens capability, you really would have to find a way for it to pay for itself or have a very good daytime job.

So I feel Magix should be concentrating on being able to deal with these newer codecs now but it is not just Magix with problems now. The industry in general I feel is having problems keeping up.

Ray.
