analog import problem - can't read file

First of all, I am new at this.  I just purchased Movie Edit Pro MX 18

I am importing from a Sony Hi8 camera using a Dazzle converter.  It is having 2 problems.  One is sound - it says it is too low and needs to be >-20 (it imported fine in the Pinnacle software that came with the Dazzle)

The second problem is that when I finish the recording it gives me an error message that it can't read the file and it might be write protected.  These are home movies.  Iam using a Dell laptop with 237G open.  I have Windows 2010 if that affects anything..

Hi

I have had no success getting MEP to recognize the Pinnacle Dazzle converter.

All the Pinnacle devices I have used (4 different models) only work with the Pinnacle software.  Others on this forum say they have got them to work with MEP but have never come back and said how.

So from my experience you can only use the Pinnacle software to capture from the camera using the Dazzle converter.

Thank you John.  So if I use Pinnacle to import the footage, can I then transfer it into MEP for editing?

Hi

Import into Pinnacle then save it the video as mpg which you can then import into MEP.

If you have a lot of importing to do then a longer term option would be to buy a USB video converter such as the Terratec unit which MEP will work with.

In the future if you decide to change your camera then I would recommend one that records to a hard drive or memory cards - importing is then as simle as copying the files directly from the camera to your computer.
