Admin Question re the 'Bonus Pack 2016' with MEP 2016

Xenofex2 wrote on 10/13/2015, 10:05 AM

Having just purchased and installed MEP 2016, I have also literally just downloaded the Bonus Pack 2016 via Catooh. However after extraction I see that I have three folders - Songs / Sound FX / & Videos - within the Downloads Folder.

Now that I know that they are there I guess I could leave it at that but just wonder how others have oprganised these bonus folders?

Hi,

Since I also have other programs from Magix, like Music Maker and Samplitude Music Studio, I have a lot of music, sound FX and videos that I have accumulated. Magix creates a public folder and places soundpools and instruments there, so I also use the same location for other downloads.

The root is:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Common

Then I have the following under ....Common:

MxSynth  - where instruments are stored automatically by Magix
Photos   - I added this for any stock photos or images that I purchased from Catooh or received from Magix somehow, or other stock images
Soundpools - for soundpools, but I added in other music folders that contain songs, loops and sound FX
Videos - I added this same as for photos.

Here is what I have under Soundpools:

+1.000 Sounds
+1.000 Sounds_2014
+1.000 Sounds_2015
Basics_19
Basics_19ms
Basics_20
Basics_21
Best of Soundpool Collection Vol. 1
Bonus Pack 2016
CyberLink Music
Drum Loops 90 BPM Vol 014
Dubstep Vol. 2
Free downloads
Magix music
MAGIX Soundpool 18 DVD Collection
MAGIX Soundpool DVD Collection 19
Misc downloads
Sound Fx
Test Johns loops
Video_&_Slideshow_Sound_Archive_8_INT

I have kept the name of the collection or source for most of the material.

This may not be the best way, but that is how I do it for now. For example, under Bonus Pack 2016, there is a folder for Songs but I moved the other folders Sound Fx and Movies to subfolders under Sound Fx and Videos. If I ever need to know which package they came with, I can consult the zip file backup that is on a BD.

Another anomaly, Video_&_Slideshow_Sound_Archive_8_INT contains the following which I should also re-file correctly:

01 natural effects
02 special effects
03 surroundings
04 atmos
05 music
MAGIX.txt    - license information
Notice that I have included some audio from another program - CyberLink. I actually have others but they are under some of the other folders or elsewhere.

Under Magix music, I started to copy in music and audio that came from other older Magix programs, like PhotoStory2013. These are mostly the music that comes under Slideshow maker and Soundtrack Maker Styes that are in the C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\PhotoStory on DVD 2013 Deluxe folder. However, this is redundant as all of the same audio files come with MEP2016 anyways. I was just worried about losing something if I decide to remove PhotoStory. My plan here is really to change the main folder name and copy in everything from all of my previous programs to avoid duplication. Then move the Sound Fx to the appropriate folder.

The trick then, is to create links to the main folder .....Common, then Soundpools and Videos and the others if wanted, in the Media Pool folder. This way I can navigate to the main area quickly and then search from there.

The important thing is to find a system early whereby you don't have to go moving the files around, because if you have used the file in a project and then moved the file, MEP won't find it ahd you will have to hunt it down.

You have done well to think of this.

Too much info?

Thankyou John for that very detailed and helpful reply.

I must admit that I do now think a lot more about the organising of my folder system more. It is the same with various completed projects on the computer as I can recall that years ago (and guess before portable external hard drives became so easily and relatively cheaply available) that in order to free up hard drive space I just deleted the working folders. Something that I later realised was a huge mistake when I wanted to return to the project and make some adjustments.

Many thanks again John.
