Adding Multiple Video Effects

CarpentersMate wrote on 2/7/2023, 9:41 PM

Hi Gang 🎥

With regard to MEP2016 Plus:

Is it possible (thru short cuts) or such, adding more than one video effect? Unless I'm missing something, (currently), its either one or the other ...

And BTW, is this application/program too old to upgrade to MEP2016 Premium? My understanding is that with Premium, one could get Mercalli Plug In's? But again, the question could be irrelevant if too many years have passed...😢

Thank You 🤓

Hi Mike.

As you know, the 2016 version was before my time but you would add effects to the main track, not another effect object which your image seems to suggest you are trying to do. Also uncouple the effect from the main clip first before trying. An effect can't be applied to two different objects at the same time.

I think all third party effects are normally offered for a limited time period so won't be included with a program version bought outside of the date the plugin was offered if the Mercalli plugins were were a third party offering at that time.

Anyway you say try adding the 2nd Video effect on a few tracks down/below? - Yes? Avoid having the default do it as it tries to jump ontop of the first effect - Yes? "two different effects cannot be applied at the same time." ?

See ya back here tomorrow after a good nites sleep (How bout you pal)? 😁

Hi Mike.

I have slept. I sleep around four hours a day. Any longer gives me migraine.

I have amended my comment slightly above.

You seem to have an effect linked to your clip. Trying to add more effects at that point to the main clip will not work. First you will have to de-link that effect below the main clip (broken chain icon) and then apply the next effect to the main clip. As I have sometimes used say, a speed adjustment, a colour correction, a crop, chroma key, and size position rotation applied to one clip since I started using the software in 2018 I can't see why there would be a tight restriction on doing the same with an earlier version.

Greetings Ray, I think you'll find that the General Options video effects add lots of effects to the video as seen in the Key Effects window (see @6seconds in the video). The same applies to Film Looks basic. One effect wipes out the other.

@CarpentersMate

Greetings Mike,

If I've read your post correctly, you want to add a film effect that distresses(?) the colours and blurs the picture also adding a few white spots to simulate old stock film and then adding the "old image sepia" effect for the colour (from what I can see it's only the colour it changes).

Have a look at the video; I think it's what you want to do - if not the I apologise but it was fun playing.

It starts with applying the Old Image effect just to show the keyframe window, I then removed the effect.

I then applied the 16mm film effect then went back to the effects tab and opened colour, slid saturation to -100 and moved the black round blob in the colour circle to find the sepia colour I wanted - et voilà!

Hi Andy.

Mike has amended his images from his first post. Those images were not the there. There was only one image showing that I based my reply on. At that point the problem looked like a different problem.

Some effects rely on other still images or video clips to which I agree with your analysis based on the current images Mike has put up. I sometimes use a lot of effects within one project and have a mixture of effects going on at the same time spread across many tracks.

You Stated:

You Stated:

"Mike amended his images"

Andy stated:

"It starts with applying the Old Image effect just to show the keyframe window, I then removed the effect."

I know what you're referring to Andy thank you - not so much the sepia thing, I was trying to combine 16mm grain effect in Movie Look section, (with) scratches, also known as 'Old Movie' in the General section. Trying to apply two different effects to the same clip... (sorry if this wasn't clear). I just don't think its possible.....

Thanx Ray

Hi Mike

. . . . "uncouple the effect from the main clip" = Have already tried that - 'No Go' . . . .

It does work however there is a step missing - see image below

However there are some mutual exclusions eg in the above example the colour change from the Old Movie is removed when the Water rings effect was added. - the result is

This could be easily effect using the Video, Colour and Colour Correction effects on the video clip.

Hi Mike.

Sorry, got the wrong end of the stick but it can still be done.

Duplicate the clip/s you want to add the effects to and place the second set about six tracks below the original clips above in sync with them. Add the Old Movie effect to the first set of clips.

Go to the second set of clips and add the 16mm grain effect to the second set of clips.

Then go to the chroma key and apply the black overly setting to all clips on the second track. Adjust sliders to taste.
