Adding more than 1 VST Plugin Pathway.

LOWKYST wrote on 5/25/2017, 10:27 AM

I would like to add more than 1 pathway destination to VST Plugins it doesn't appear that this is possible. I currently use Magix Music Maker MX Premium ( Download Version ) - Is this resolved in another version of Music Maker? The reason I ask is not everything runs through a Steinberg VST plugin Path, but Native Instruments has one, Waves has one and Output, plus others that I would love to use in MMM. Does anyone have a solution for this? Or could this maybe be a future update or addition to MMM? - Thanks for anyone able to respond.

Hi.

I have to say right from the off that I don't own or use any version of MM but I do have considerable experience with other DAWs, such as Reaper and Adobe Audition.

Have you tried simply copying ALL the .dll files that are resident in folders other than the single one which MM looks at, into that single MM folder? Notice, copy not move.

I assume these are VSTis (VST Instruments) as well as normal VSTs (VST Effects)? Whichever, there is no reason why a simple copying of the appropriate files should not achieve what you want to do. I have done this sort of thing for several of my DAW installs.

Thanks for response emmrecs - Unfortunately because of the way some of the plugin manufactures do things these days it's not just a matter of copying a plugin to the appropriate directory anymore. I purchase most of my "Pro Plugin" eg: not free plugins, which I could otherwise copy the .dll file to the destination. The plugins I use have a registration process with separate downloaded software directories in order to reaffirm registration and ownership. ( www.waves.com - www.output.com - and Native Instruments does this - EG: Kontakt Plugins ) - If I transfer the destination folder to something to suit MMM, it will interfere in my ability to use them in other DAWS for some reason - Cubase and Maschine. If more then 1 directory path could be aloted in MMM, it would be awesome. ( Also, it gets complicated when some plugins run 32 bit and some 64 bit and various version of VST including VST3 ). - I'm trying to figure out a solution myself, but it's proving to be a nightmare. Thanks again for response!

Hi

. . . . add more than 1 pathway destination to VST Plugins it doesn't appear that this is possible . . . .

This is possible - open up the Program Settings, Folders tab. There you will find the Add VST Plug-in Path button as shown below.

Are you running MMM MX on Windows 10? If so there may be compatibility issues - MX is not compatible and some functions may not work.

Thanks John EB - I managed to Get my Waves Plugins and Native Instruments Plugins to work, but I still can't load some of my other folders ( eg: Sylenth1 ), I will assume my version of MMM doesn't work with 64bit plugins at the moment or it limits the number of folders because when I tried in the past, it just over wrote the destination path. ( Doing it the way you explained ). I was hoping I could also load Sylenth1 as well. But I'm happy with my Native Instruments folder showing up now at least. And what I had to do is select the VST plugin path from the Channel 1 ( Midi Record Mode for it to show up for some reason ). Thanks for the response!

*( If you create EDM or Hip Hop - Waves makes a killer plugin called Infected Mushroom - Pusher ) - Should run that on your master bus FX slot! Huge difference in finished Product! - It will infuse your projects with some extra life! - ;)

Hi again.

I'm pretty certain MMM MX is a 32 bit program. If you want to use 64 bit plug ins with it you need to buy, download and install jbridge from https://jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge/ (There is a free demo so you can test that it works for you). I use it to enable me to use 64 bit plugins in a 32 bit DAW and 32 bit plugins in a 64 bit DAW; just ensure that you have the two sets of bridged VSTs in different folders!

Hey.

I figured a way to work with all my plugins including Sylenth1 (which is a 32bit plugin, I believe ), by using Maschine 2 plugin on my channel strip. The great news is I don't get any latency issues doing it this way. I might make a video tutorial of what I did to implement Maschine in MMM down the road. Want to work on a project first before I share the how to though :) - Thanks again and will check out the jbridge.

Hi @LOWKYST. I would very much be interested in a video about VST's and paths and really anything that a noobie can understand. I read things over and over and still can't totally understand...but at least I keep trying!
