short answer

• plug the midi controller in to your pc
• start acid
• check the settings/midi section to ensure the midi controller detected and is enabled
• insert a midi track
• press keys on your controller, you should hear the generic piano virtual synth
• arm the midi track to record (red circle on the midi track), hit record in the project, record some notes from your controller
