Acid Pro farewell ...

Unfortunately, this moment had to come. I have to say goodbye to Acid Pro until further notice.Unfortunately, working with him has become more and more difficult. There is no progress...Almost three years under Magix is a long time and however, it's too long.I appreciate the intentions and work of the developers who have made a lot of progress in modernizing Acid. However, lack of stability spoils this legacy ... Back to Cubase and Ableton Live, where is professional support and every problem is solved quickly and on a regular basis.I will keep checking back here and follow the further progress ... but the job cannot wait, most of us are not 15 years old :) See you later.

Hey Jocker, I understand your frustration man. I was crushed when version 8 came out and I couldn't finish one song on it due to it's dark GUI and I wanted to yell at the developer as all we wanted was the 32 to 64 bit. Thats all they had to do and work on the bugs that Sony left. I wasted more money and bought the Ableton upgrade only to come back to Acid version 9, still the dark GUI but with more crashes, back to Ableton, then on to Acid version 10, was a little happy that they made GUI light (inverted), but now MP3s won't work, it would crash even more. Its been a disaster and I noticed, if you complain (which any paying customer would), you get admins/employees/moderators agitate already frustrated customer even more in the forums. I did my own troubleshooting and learned how to avoid crashes and now it seems to be working ok just as long as I don't mess with the "features" they added. I have learned that its the new bells and whistles that made Acid more unstable. Melodyne and MP3 format have not worked to-date for me and Magix blew me off by saying they have "added" my issues to the log and I never heard back from them. I tried the laughable morph pads which caused me to re-install Acid. There was a point where I was re-installing Acid each time the PC was restarted up until last week.

So, I just avoid these new features and use Acid as if it was still version 7 and it will work fine. Avoid midi, MP3 files, magix effects and instruments and things are stable so far. I hate to say this but I am seeing the same pattern here as Sony. I think Magix made up what they paid to Sony and have Acid thrown aside. If I was Magix boss, I would have fired the employee who handled this DAW extremely poorly and thats what I am thinking happened here and we got the short end of the stick. Good luck to you bro. I hope you still come back as I don't want Magix to drop this DAW as this is all I am comfortable with. The day any other DAW come out with the same exact GUI (double clicking in explorer, pick-paint), the same simple format as Acid, I will be jumping ship, too. Reaper comes close but misses the mark. So, waiting in hope but until then, I will keep re-installing, keep using it. I wonder if Magix sees how many times I am re-registering it. LOL.

After the last update of 10.0.4 (b 29), this is a program that does not work. There are problems that do not lead to the correct operation of the program. There were times that before the last update (b29) it was more stable.I respect the work of Magix programmers and the fact that they undertook to "reactivate" Acid after many years However, what they already did on the 64 bit kernel could be improved.Do not add 32bit bridges, vsti vst 2 gen effects. And do everything under 64 bit and Vst 3 and the built-in plug-in effects also rewrite Sony to 64 bit natively..We use 99% of plugins from third-party developers. And here integrity should be created in order for these external plugins to work well in Acid.If this is a DAW "PRO" it must be stable. You cannot rely on a semi-finished product and weak additives to it, demanding payment for something that does not work 100%No program is 100% perfect, but most of the top players are 99% stable.Better to cross-upgrade to Presonus Studio One 5, you will save the nerve and stress ... and Studio One 5 works very well. :)once it works, once it doesn't ... Russian roulette.

Man, I see your frustration. Plus you were using that dreadful dark GUI, too. But hearing you about the programmers about stabalizing the DAW right after Sony, you are right but at the same time, it also solidifies my suspicion that the developers had little to no knowledge of this DAW previously. I suspect if they are even musicians. But yes, aside from the problems, I was thankful to Magix for trying but come on, 100 bucks on each upgrade, rather it should have been either way less or free as we were played as guinea pigs. I just hope that they will continue fixing it as no matter what, this is the DAW I will always use.

I own Ableton, Studio one, Cubase and Mixcraft (had logic too but couldn't deal with Apple's updates), but I always found myself come back to Acid as all those other DAWs are geared more for recording/mixing, rather Acid to me a very fast (if it worked) scratch pad, throw loops and put together a song within 20 minutes before you move it to one of those DAWs for mixing. Magix went way too fast to move it in major DAWs queue and I think the plan failed. One needs to understand what AcidPro really is before tinkering with it. Other "major" DAWs are like Boeing 747s and AcidPro is the F16 fighter jet to me. Anyway, good luck to you and I hope S1 does the trick for you.

Unless all you do is paint loops, the DAW has terrible QoL and there are $0 cost alternatives that are much better.

That's the problem that ACID Pro faces. The fact that it wasn't developed for a decade has denied it to ability to actually evolve with the competition. So, it's still a late-90's DAW trying to compete with others that have moved onto the 2010's and beyond.

Loop Arranging was a big thing back in the late 90s/early 2000s - largely because it was an easy way for people without production talent/knowledge to throw together music. The market has shifted. People are now learning - from the ground up - to create their own beats and melodies, from scratch. Loop Arranging has become a meme, and people only use loops sparingly. People do use Samples, however, and one-shot samples have largely replaced pre-mixed loops in the marketplace.

ACID Pro was supposed to evolve into something that would compete with the likes of Ableton Live and FL Studio, but the stalled development denied it that opportunity, so now it's a niche DAW for a shrinking market.

I expect more people to leave for DAWs like Cakewalk and Studio One Artist (now that VST/ReWire is unlocked OTB). Once you move beyond painting loops, ACID Pro becomes difficult to work with. There are too many QoL niceties that other DAWs have which are missing. It feels incredibly limited once you veer outside of its very narrow focus.

That being said, I think people are expecting miracles. Despite it being 2 years, you people are expecting things that are simply out of the realm of probability. MAGIX is not moving ACID into other DAWs' territory.

They have largely focused on areas that benefit ACID Pro's core user base. Stem Separator, VST3, Better Stock Plugins, UI Refresh, etc.

And speaking of the Dark UI. Every DAW has one, so it's time to stop moaning about it (esp. considering they have added lighter options). Most people prefer a Dark UI, because the light UI from Acid Pro 7 was unusable in dimmer rooms, where either you'd develop a migraine looking at it and being blinded, or you ramped the brightness down on your monitors to almost nothing. Even Pro Tools has added one, and Avid doesn't move at the speed of light. The fact that people are still whining about this is hilarious.

Just proved my point about "triggered" and hurt feelings! Anyway, in that entire vent, you were right about one thing, Acid is gone! Magix is the next Sony. You talking about Acid pro was popular back in the day and won't compete now? You are clueless!

You come here trying to aggrevate customers instead of providing useful suggestions or solutions. We are already frustrated as most of us paid for this clunker instead of downloading cracks. I for one still come here to help others as neither you, or Magix help at all. I stopped reading your rant about halfway as I didn't see any solutions. You tried pushing us to other DAWs in another post, again, whats your deal? Unless you have a solution, stop responding.

Edit: You just cleared up Acid's future for me. I just realized I was right about all my assumptions with Magix and Acid. I paid for 8, 9 and 10 and was planning on supporting Magix further if they kept up with Acid but with your rant, it is clear that Acid ain't going anywhere so there would be no point in throwing money at this company anymore. Thank you for sealing the deal for me.

Acid pro was a great DAW, SF made a major mistake selling it to Sony who ruined it and sold to Magix who is not only incompetent, but has these aggrevating forum admins (employees) who are trying to protect Magix when customers come with genuine complaints. So you just want to hear compliments?

@Former user @Former user

Gentlemen, please remember the Community rules, especially #1. (They are to be found in the footer of every forum page.)

However, I do agree with @Former user that you @Former user do seem to post here only to completely denigrate MAGIX and ACID Pro, whilst appearing to promote other DAWs. The almost inevitable result of such posts is to antagonise other users.

Whatever one's views of the manufacturer and their software, this forum is not intended as a place for "sounding off" but rather for users to try to assist other users. Frank exchange of views is fine; continual ranting is not!

Please take this as a warning that future posts in a similar vein are highly likely to be removed and the poster face the potential of a permanent ban from the forums.

One other thing needs to be made clear to @Former user: forum moderators are NOT Magix employees and we are certainly NOT trying to protect Magix. Personally, I have no interest whatsoever in such a practice. If Magix, or its software, deserves criticism I have never shied away from making such criticism nor would I prevent others doing the same. The only criterion which moderators seek to promote is frank , but friendly discussion.

This thread will now be closed.

Thank you, Emmrecs for understanding. If I wanted another DAW, I would have. I just want Acid fixed. Writing about problems is a hope that maybe somebody at Magix will log in and see the frustration here. Cheers!
