Acid Pro 9 update and earlier versions...

Ira-Mays wrote on 9/8/2020, 9:58 AM

I have both Acid 9 and 8 installed on my system. I need to use them both as I have been absolutely unsuccessful in getting my older vst's to work in 9, but they work fine in 8. However, the new major update for 9 will not install without updating "older version". Sounds like that means all older versions. I guess that means I cannot install the update?...

If I can't install it, is there a way to stop the reminders?...

Ira, go to 'Options' then 'Preferences and UNCHECK 'Use Newsfeed to stay informed about..etc'

see if that helps.'

Did uncheck, still getting the update notice, will just have to click "update later" each time at startup I guess. Just concerned that if I can't do the update and an important one comes along, I'll be left out to dry. Is there a way I can update 9 without wiping out 8 in the process? It did not appear to give me that option...

It should be possible to have 8 and 9 on the same PC, and a patch update to a specific version will only update that version (9), and not remove earlier versions (8).

If you still need to reinstall 8 afterwards for whatever reason, you can find the downloads under the my products section of your account @ magix.com

Thanks, but that's what I had to do the last time I lost those keyboards and it was a long process to get them back. The project I'm working on should only take a few more months and I guess I'll hold off any updates until that's done and maybe I can actually find a way to get those keys to work in 9, then I won't need 8. Until then, the risk outweighs the benefit. I appreciate the response, thank you...

Just one last major question about this issue (for at least a while), is there a limit on how many times I can press "Update Later" before it just updates automatically anyway?...

Uninstall 8, update 9, then reinstall 8.

Though there is also an update for 8 that isn't baked into the downloader, so you may run into the reverse issue...

Thank you. However, uninstalling 8 or updating will cause me to lose the older vst's that I need for the current project I'm working on, which work very good on 8 now, but won't work in 9 no matter what I have attempted. The last time 8 was uninstalled/reinstalled and it was a hard, lengthy process getting those vst's back and I cannot afford that type of setback at the moment. Any Idea if 9 will force the update after a period of time as some software does?...
