Acid Pro 10: Integrating Apps as VST's

Peter-Elfman wrote on 2/27/2021, 12:36 PM

I have recently run across a number of stand-alone applications that claim the ability to integrate into DAW's as VST's. This is everything from other DAW's like MPC Beats (Akai), Komplete Start library (Native Instruments), and SINE (Orchestral Tools). I have installed a number of these under the promise that I'll be able to use them within my DAW, Acid Pro.

This has not been the case. None of them show up in either my list of effects plugins nor MIDI instrument options. Each manufacturer offers the same set of instructions more or less; install the programs into the proper VST folders, or have the DAW scan the appropriate installation folder. I have done this many times, but Acid Pro does not give any indication of being able to access any of these abilities. So far, Spitfire Labs is the only one that works, but I've noticed that while it has a stand-alone component, that component doesn't actually offer any way to play the instruments, it just provides a means to acquire and manage them.

So my first question is, can Acid Pro actually integrate software like these, and if so, HOW?

Hello @Peter-Elfman,

I have tested the vst versions of MPC Beats and also Komplete and Maschine 2 and all worked fine in ACID. You have to make sure that you have set the right vst directories in the plugin manager. Default directories are:

  • Komplete: C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\VSTPlugins 64 bit
  • MPC Beats: C:\Program Files\Steinberg\VSTPlugins

I hope this helps.

Best,

Marco

@MarcoStorm, that was super-helpful, thank you. I got MPC Beats to work. I had to uninstall Native Access because it was glitching out my sounds, so I'll try to install that suite and see what happens. The SINE Player from Orchestra Tools still isn't showing up in Acid, after setting up the appropriate folders in the plugin manager and triple-checking the correct locations.

Okay, happy to hear that we could fix at least on of your problems. I am optimistic that the Native Instruments stuff also works. For the SINE Player please check your failed directory in the plugin manager and let me know if you find it there.

I didn't think to check the failed folder. Negative there, or in the Unavailable folder, for the SINE player. It's supposed to be a set of instrument voices, though, so I'm not sure if that's the spot to look for that sort of thing...? is there a list of failed MIDI plugins?

ACID has no category for MIDI plugins. But as I understand the SINE Player it should work as VST Instrument like Komplete right? I installed it and it shows up in my failed folder in the Soft Synths. That means that ACID was not able to scan the plugin correctly. For now I see no workaround to use it in ACID. I'll put it on the VST bug list.

I have no idea where the Failed folder is for Soft Synths, but I'll take your word for it. Thank you for the help!

Peter, the failed folder should be in the plugins explorer folder

Hey Aman! Yeah, I found that folder, but it doesn't show anything MIDI related, just track effects. (and nothing involving SINE, sadly).

@Peter-Elfman: I think a picture will make it clear ;-)

@MarcoStorm, Thanks. I initially thought there was a similar folder showing MIDI plugins. I did locate the folder you are showing in the screen-shot, and it's empty despite the fact that I have set up the Plugin Manager to scan the appropriate folder. But as you said before, the darn thing wouldn't work even if it did scan correctly, so I'm calling this done until Magix updates Acid and fixes the issue.

Those are some amazing instruments though. 😢😢😢
