Hi,

If you are using web site maker, you have purchased a product that has the primary features of simple and easy.  If you bought simple and easy could you please explain why you need or want a sub domain?

If you want a sub domain to say link from your primary site to another web site, yes buy another domain and hosting, set up the link that you want within the application to point to the new domain, upload whatever content you want to the new domain, if you want put in a "back button" link that to the primary domain and when someone clicks it they are back to your main site.  Anything you upload or change from the first site will have no impact on the sub, and anything you do on the sub will have no impact on the primary or first site.

Too much information is always better than not enough.  There is a classic definition of subdomains and there is a pratical one.  I can't be sure from your post which definition you are using.

Good Luck
