A device not available when recording from What U hear

I have a few input devices, but the one I most use is the What U hear on my Sound BlasterX AE-5. Problem is that I cannot record from any device using Sound Forge.

When I press the record button I get a message box saying 'An error occurred while recording. A device is not available.'

When I click Ok, another error message pops up saying 'One or more audio playback devices do not support the current sample rate and/or bit-depth. A device is not available.'

I use 44.100 kHz stereo 16 bit, so it is well within specifications for the sound card.

I would be very grateful for any help to solve the problem.

Confirm you have the appropriate Audio device type input source selected in "Options> Preferences> Audio>"

Otherwise, another app may have 'captured' the soundcard. In Win10's task manager, check for and disable a conflicting app.

This recent thread may have some clues as well:

Thank you. I had already tried the recording preferences where I notices that only one of my devices worked. Your hint to the other thread made me understand that the What U Hear no longer works in Sound Forge. Very good to know that. Now I can stop banging my head against the wall ;). So, the final solution is simply to make an outer connection and it all works fine again. Thank you!
