2 gig video becomes 35 gig burn file?

proprem wrote on 3/16/2013, 9:10 PM

Cannot understand why 2 gigs of video plus the DVD menu template can grow to 35 gigs?  The raw recorded files are 2.2 gigs of which I used about 1.98.  When I go to burn the burner interface reports that the file is now 34.85 gigs.  I have confirmed the size of each clip and cannot understand why it is so large.

proprem,

Any titles, transitions etc, and tht DVD menu will take up some space but not likely so much. Check the file formats of your source video and of your output. If you start with say standard definition video and go to maximum quality full HD things are definitely going to get bigger!

Carl

Hi

Which version of MEP are you using and what format are you selecting in the Burn dialog - DVD, BD or AVCHD?

35 Gb == approx a 9 hour DVD or 2.5 hour BD/AVCHD - so I guess you are trying to burn a HD disc.

Check all tracks on your timeline do not have a stray object after the 'final' clip that you actually want - possibly somewhere near the 2 - 2.5 hour mark.

You can delete any excess by using Range delete see this image for how to select the range at the end of the video, then press Alt + Del or select Edit, Edit Range, Delete from the menu, then save the project.

HTH

11.0.6.4 - DVD - Yes there was an object beyond the end, although removing did help a little the size remains appreciably the same.  I did notice though (not sure why not until now) that the timeline reports 12 hours.  The VHS I recorded was scene recognized and is 97 minutes, so there is another issue.  I added one pic-on-pic and from a template using a piece of the intro with it's sound (oog), added an overlay object along with one take extracted from the recording, and boosted the oog a little.  That's pretty much it.

While you look at this I will search for gaps.  Is there an automated way to do that?

Thank you for your time.

MORE: Strange thing....the first two frames (from a template intro) actually play for 30 seconds but report 5 minutes in the timeline above.  The only difference in the dropped in template material is that it originates as a 16:9 frame and the video is set 4:3 since it is old VHS brought in.  I changed the individual aspect ratios but did not help.  They came from the 'documentary' movie template that came with the program.  I cut these three sections, essentially the in and the out into my timeline totalling about 90 seconds.  Could the template items be thwarting the timeline?

Hi

. . . . the timeline reports 12 hours . . .

Is this for the full video with the last object at the 12 hour marker ?

Did you do the range delete to get rid of empty space after the last object?

. . . .the first two frames (from a template intro) actually play for 30 seconds but report 5 minutes in the timeline above. . . . .

Can you post a screen shot of the timeline zoomed in showing the above frames and the indicated 5 mins.

John

Yes, got rid of range as recommended.  Decided to start over since edits few.  Not sure what the problem was.  Am burning now...when done will send you capture.

Thanks again for your help.
