10.0.4 Software Update causing Unmanaged Exception 0xc0000005 Crash

Justin-Beaton wrote on 10/29/2020, 4:52 PM

Acid was working perfectly fine until I got the notification to update to 10.0.4 and installed it. Now, it crashed every time I start it up with the Unmanaged Exception 0xc0000005 error. How do I revert back to 10.0.3? I uninstalled it and attempted to install the original installer I had for 10.0.3 but it just installed 10.0.4 again. Is there a way to do a complete, clean uninstall? Thanks!

I'm having exactly the same problem mate, started a thread this afternoon but no reply yet, i tried to install with the original installer too and it didn't work either.

Gentlemen, are you getting a "there is an update available" option when you install the original version?

Justin-Beaton wrote on 10/29/2020, 10:30 PM

@Hibbo Yeah, frustrating. Oddly enough, I just happen to have a hard drive image handy because I recently migrated to a faster SSD--so I just re-cloned it. But earlier I tried submitting something to "Pro Audio Support" (the only place I could find where I could actually contact support), so if they respond to me, I'll post it here.

@Former user When I uninstalled entirely and went to reinstall with my original 10.0.3 installer, I didn't get that, no. But it did just reinstall 10.0.4 again.

After reverting back to my previous hard drive image containing Acid 10 ver 10.0.3, there is no more crashing issue. But this prompt has returned:

Of course, I will not be installing it this time, haha.

Yup, thats what I am trying to get to. Do not install. In my case, i installed that and so far no issues but that does not mean its safe for everyone.

@Former user Yes, and now of course I can't get the popup to stop. There is no "Magix Connect" or "Magix Update Notifier" anywhere to uninstall. I haven't the slightest clue of how to disable it.

I just tested the update and made a song, so far so good and they actually fixed something I have been asking for. But I will find out tomorrow once I install the update on my main studio machine if all is well. Praying.

This was the response I received:

Thank you for writing us.  I am sending you the previous build number via WeTransfer...so please be on the lookout for a WeTransfer notification...you may need to check your spam folder as well to make sure.  The file was too big to attach to this mail, so I sent it as a WeTransfer.  This should help you while the developers fix the issue with the update.  Just remember to do a clean uninstall of the current build that you have, then run the file I sent.  Also, remember to not run the update when you are prompted, otherwise, you'll get the same error as before.  Thanks for your time and patience, and have a great day!

Here is the link to the previous build: https://wetransfer.com/downloads/580182866970a41fb0654ac2f7f9298a20201030121351/cc74f2a8fb710df5c990dee3a8ff158c20201030121351/ec812d

Cheers man, but that WeTransfer link is for SoundForge Pro, not Acid Pro 10, it's file name is forge140_x64_build65.exe.

Looks like they've sent you the wrong file, we need Acid Pro 10.0.3.

Is there anyway you could upload your file of 10.0.3 from your old HD image, is that even possible?

Justin-Beaton wrote on 10/30/2020, 12:12 PM

@Hibbo Shoot, they did send the wrong installer! I didn't even notice that. Yes, I'll do that now so you can download it.

Justin-Beaton wrote on 10/30/2020, 12:16 PM

@Hibbo This should work. It's the 10.0.3 installer--I had it sitting on an external hard drive thankfully: https://we.tl/t-0eDfpKs2EM

Ahhhh i grabbed this but when you install it auto updates somehow it to the 10.0.4 version, i'm going to try and install with my internet off in flight mode and see if that works, thaaks again man.

Hibbo wrote on 10/30/2020, 12:37 PM

Nope, turns out you cannot install Acid Pro 10 with no internet, and it somehow manages to auto update the version between clicking it and installing, arghhhhhhh, i knew i shouldn't have clicked 'update' yesterday.

That's exactly what it did to me. I followed up with support and asked how you do a "clean uninstall," which is what they directed. I will post their response when they answer. How often do you backup your hard drive image? Do you have something you can revert back to you? That's how I had to do it. I just saved everything new that wouldn't be on the old image then re-cloned it

I have a nas synology backup but i found out last night that it hadn't been backing up properly since i moved house in July due to an static IP issue, have reset it and it's working now but means i can't access the original 10.0.3 install file, what a caper this is turning into.

Justin-Beaton wrote on 10/30/2020, 1:11 PM

@Hibbo Haha, these things are always long, rabbit hole capers in disguise as a minor issue. Hopefully, they get back to me today and I can post their response. Something like this is $25 and it purports to completely uninstall any trace of a program on your system: https://www.revouninstaller.com/--or, it looks as though freeware exists as well: https://www.lifewire.com/free-uninstaller-programs-2625188 (not sure how effective freeware would be). Something along these lines might do the trick and wipe any trace of 10.0.4 from your system--leaving you to freely uninstall the 10.0.3 I gave you.

I think i've found a workaround in the meantime until Magix can sort it, if i open the program on it's own, not by clicking a project file, but just by clicking directly on Acid 10 it opens fine and then i can load projects by clicking 'File, Open' and they all seem to work, so it looks like it could be some sort of file extension issue maybe, who knows hahaha.

Nice! Savvy. That's awesome. Glad you found a method that works.

@Hibbo

Hi

. . . . open the program on it's own, not by clicking a project file, but just by clicking directly on Acid 10 it opens fine . . .

That is the normal way of using a program, double clicking on a project file requires Windows to open the program and pass the project file to it, the exception could be coming from Windows and/or Antivirus rather than the program.

Check that your Antivirus Ransomware/Folder protection feature is not blocking the launch of Acid by protecting the program folders or the folder where the project file is located, if it is try turning it off and then try opening the project by double clicking on it. If it works then you need to add an exception for the project folder or program exe.

Turn the protection feature back on after testing.

John, where can I find the latest Update notes. I would like to see what other changes or bug fixes that were done.

Thank you.

After no response what so ever from Magix via message and Facebook after a full day now. I've been trying various things that have worked in the past on other programs...

1: Uninstall the Acid auto-updater from your program list on your program drive

2: Clean out all the empty file folders and registry errors with C Cleaner or similar

3: Do not double click from the taskbar or shortcut to launch Acid.

4: go to the program menu, find acid, and select run as Administrator.

Works fine now...
