Possible problem with latest Intel graphics driver 25.20.100.6444

Hi

This might be a coincidence but I just updated my HD530 graphics driver to this new release of 28/11/2018 and have experienced something very strange where I rendered a short section across 3x UHD MP4 clips to HD .mts, to test the Horizon leveling blurring bug reported elsewhere. These play fine in WMPlayer. On dragging these back into another project only the first couple of seconds play reliably and the rest of the preview turns black, as do the thumbnails beyond the first couple.

Further attempts to play the clips can show a few more seconds at random and the odd new thumbnail amongst the black ones further down the timeline. These clips were created prior to me updating to the new Intel driver but not brought into VPX until after the update.

This behaviour makes me think it may be a display (driver) problem. A German member has reported some strange behaviour with a recent update here: -https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/problem-nach-neuestem-update-des-intel-hd-graphik-ship-630--1218506/.

The Intel download warns that this latest driver uses a new Windows driver model and notes that if you need to rollback (suspicious?) you need to uninstall the driver via the Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel rather that using the rollback in Device Manager which could cause big problems. I had created a restore point before updating and hope that this will allow me to avoid all that but for the mean time I will monitor and test for other problems.

Anyone else noted anything strange?

Peter

Hi Peter,

Missed your post 10 days ago but now aware of it via John EB as a result of my digression here:

https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/error-igdrcl64-dll--1219011/#ca1427934

How did you do the update? In view of your comments I'm relieved that mine doesn't appear to have been implemented. But I'm also somewhat confused!

Hi Terry

I used the same method as you but it shows as installed in Device Manager.

Thanks John EB for the link in the other thread to the Intel FAQs on the DCH drivers. A little alarming that in that FAQ they say to not even attempt reinstalling the legacy drivers without contacting them, whereas the notes that came up with the Intel driver download suggested It would be okay to reinstall using add remove programs. My guess is that the FAQ was written a while ago and that the advice has been reviewed in the download notes? I notice that the properties window in Device Manager for the Driver Rollback is now greyed out.

A little tricky for you not knowing if the new model installed or not but safest might be to go to the restore point that Windows would have created if and when the DCH driver install was attempted and start again from there to be on the safe side.

Pleased to say that my original alarm about problems with display after update to the DCH driver above were likely unfounded as the clips, which were exported prior to the update and did not play properly after the update, have displayed the same symptoms on my much older computer with no Intel GPU.

Still a little suspicious that there is potential for problems if this new model is such a radical change though.

Hi Peter,

Thanks, much appreciated. (Somehow your reply didn’t seem present here as at last night - or I missed it!)

I’ll try again shortly when I finish my current project.

Anyone who has not yet installed the model update noticing any graphics quirks?

Terry
