New Music Maker wont recognise instruments I already have activated.

Hi

I have  purchased Music Maker Premium 2017 and Music Maker Premium 2014 in the past. This older software still works well and I have a number of instruments that work on both of these older programs.

I have now uploaded the current  free version  of Music Maker with the intention to use the instruments I already own. To do this I have  used the  "Activate Edition" button to put in the serial numbers of the two older Music Makers programs. The system  then uploaded and activated all previously owned content . Much of my previously owned instruments etc have uploaded and activated except for the following

Vibraphone
Upright base
Space Pad
Saxaphone
Century Keys

These above instruments are all activated on my 2017 Music Maker Premium program and work fine, and therefore should have activated on the new current Music Maker .These instrument were all  legally activated with Magix bundles purchased. How can I make them work as they should. I have followed Magix directions to activated them.

How can I fix this.

Cheers

Hi

I have the same issue with the above instruments, from my experience with the Space Pad I suspect these instruments are not compatible with MMM 2019.

Also I have found that with Space Pad any project created on an earlier version of MMM, that uses the old Space Pad, will load and play the instrument correctly, however there is no interface to change the settings, extrapolating from that the others may also load but cannot be changed.

There is a new Space Pad - is part of Cinematic Synths/Pads and is, IMHO, very different from the original. 😞

Thanks for reply.

All the 5 instruments that I want to activate in the current Music Maker are up to date and the same as the versions I have working in my 2017 Music Maker. Ive emailed Magix customer service, and after a few emails they have basically said they were never activated in purchased bundles, there is no evidence of them being purchased separately and its not probable that the system allowed activation by accident, so therefore because there is no proof they were activated previously there is nothing to fix and Im not entitled to them. In other words they dont want to help with it. Really bad customer service. Meanwhile Im using those instruments today in my 2014 and 2017 versions of Music Maker. Go figure!

It seems its possible that the instruments were some type of add on bonus that I was entitled to or I purchased but the documentation of their activation is somehow lost and no longer documented due to the complexity and often changing nature of Magix system and  software’s evolution. I just dont want to buy these instruments again to use them in the new version of Music Maker when I already obtained them legally and they should be able to work with the new software.

Hi

Check what you have installed in the followed folder:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Music Maker 2014 version \Synth

You should find either a shortcut pointing to where the synths are actually installed or the synths themselves.

If you have shortcuts which folder do they point to?

As you can see in the image below, the Century Keys, Saxophonia and Space Pad are all shortcuts and all point to an earlier version Music Maker 17.

Instruments from versions of MMM before MX, in my case 17, cannot be activated in MMM 2019.

Thanks for the reply John. I notice you often reply to me and I appreciate that.

According to Magix, the issue is not that the old instruments are incompatible with the new Music Maker version or if they are shortcuts etc, the issue according to them is that I have to have proof that the instruments were purchased so that the system can download and can activate them in the new Music Maker. The 5 instruments can be purchased and used in the new Music Maker. They are in the store today.

Question-How often do Magix do a sale on the instruments ?. Last instrument sale was at end of March. I think having to buy them again is my only option.

Hi

. . . . I think having to buy them again is my only option. . . .

I would ask Magix whether these instruments were part of the default set that came with MMM 2014 or an older version if you had one.

Mine came by default with MMM 17.

Hi Dave,

Magix has sales often on various things; we don't know what or when in advance.

Rather than purchase piecemeal, you would probably be better off getting Plus (4 instruments of your choice) or Premium (8 instruments of your choice). Unfortunately, you just missed a 50% discount sale on Premium. Keep watching for specials.

Hi

. . . . How can they have no record of what Ive told them even though I have the invoice and email trail to prove what Im saying is correct. Are they scamming me, LOL. Its very odd . . . .

I have a couple of occasions when the software registered on my laptop, yet it did not appear in my account list of registered products on the Magix.com website, also under Help, About the serial number box was blank.

Assuming the email address checks out and they have been given the invoice number date and details then It should be safe to give them the serial number.

Hi all,

This was troubleshot as a support case, but I wanted to add a little more information here, just in case someone is reading this at a later point in time and wants to draw some knowledge from this thread.

The authentication of MAGIX software instruments (mainly the Vita solo instruments series) works via two different systems that are mutually exclusive. In older Music Maker generations, it works via MAGIX' traditional DRM/copy-protection system ("Protein"). In more current generations featuring the in-app store system, this is the sole basis for any DRM. While such a new version may be able to pick up the installation status of an instrument from an old version, it cannot pick up the authentication, and thus won't enable you to use it, unless you also own that instrument via the in-app store.

In order to enable users of older versions to still use their instrument, MAGIX has included the ability to add an older generation Music Maker serial number to the "Activate Edition" dialogue of the more current "freemium" generation Music Makers (i.e. 25.x, 27.x and future versions). This works for Music Maker versions going back to generation 18 (a.k.a. "MX"), as well as for (Samplitude) Music Studio versions of the more recent years. Using this function doesn't necessarily require the installation of those instruments on your current machine. Instead, this is what happens when you enter an old serial number: Music Maker sends the serial number to the server, to the in-app store back-end software. This will identify what product/version it's for, check whether that license is registered to the same MAGIX user account you're using to log into the in-app store, and then use a table stored on the server to look up what software instruments (and core program features) were associated with that particular version. Those items will then be donated to your account as in-app store items, which in turn will result in them becoming available to you in the current Music Maker version. If an instrument unlocked this way isn't locally installed yet, it can be downloaded and installed via the in-app store at this stage.

This means you'll only be able to receive instruments that were actually bundled with those older versions. The instruments that are reported as missing by the OP are neither part of any edition of version 2014 nor version 2017 of Music Maker. So, it would be in consistent with expectations that these wouldn't be unlocked via the "Activate Edition" dialogue.

Cheers!
