MEP2019 - patch 209 - previous list of bugs/problems for updating

browj2 wrote on 9/18/2018, 11:26 AM

Hi,

A new patch 18.0.1.209 was issued today with the following fix:
* Fixed: performance problems when moving objects

Below is the list of problems that I had prepared for the previous patch - 205, I believe. Following patches 207 and 209, I would appreciate it if others could validate the list to see what has been resolved, what not, and if there are any new problems. I have added a few more that were mentioned previously and also added that NB Essentials IV Drop Shadow - OFX causes a crash and restart.

1. Startup screen - Load existing project is always blank and there is nothing in the pop-down. EDIT: There is an issue which occurs once the Recent file list in the videodeluxe.ini file reaches more than 10 entries. It would also be more useful if they were listed in reverse order, i.e. newest to oldest.

2. Templates screen - on my Surface Pro 4, same problem that I raised for VPX - cannot use the vertical scroll that is to the left of the list. Instead, a double-arrow shows up to resize the window.

3. No updated manual, either pdf or chm

4. Resolved: Professional title animations - cannot find anything about this new feature. The advert was changed, so there is really nothing new.

5. Chroma key for everyone - cannot find anything about this new feature

6. External audio editor - right-clicking on the audio part of a video clip does not bring up the possibility of editing it in an external editor. It used to and should.

7. External audio editor - AML and ACL return errors, VSCL returns nothing. Only ME3 and Samplitude Pro X3 work properly.

8. NewBlue Video Essentials III and IV OFX still giving black preview monitor with/without HWA and export either crashes MEP or gives video with no image, only sound, with/without HWA. This affects some computers and not others.

9. MultiCam - audio on Track 2 seems to create transitions when exiting (see French forum).

10. Resolved: proDAD Heroglyph - causes MEP2019 to restart. Works for me in patch 209.

11. Resolved, not a problem - Chapters - seems to be a problem with chapters not starting at the correct location on a burned DVD/BR

12. Rotation - Using the previous version, the Straighten Horizon slider would automatically crop the picture so that the sides were vertical - some changes to the aspect were available using "Section" but the sides always remained vertical. This happens under 2 specific conditions, otherwise no issue:

  • The image size is reduced to less than full screen - it does not matter which order the 2 effects are applied.
  • The section is bigger than the available area in the rotated image - apply to avoid this - straighten horizon/rotate first then apply section settings - you can then see the limits available in the rotated image.

13. Icon Button under Effects jumps back to top of list (NB non OFX effects): the previous version the icon buttons under Effects always stayed where they were i.e. using a button at the bottom of the scrolling bit and applying the effect, that button was still showing. In the new version after applying the effect at the bottom of the scroller, the button moves to the top again meaning I have to scroll down to the bottom (or wherever) again.

14. Taskbar icon during export: when a video is being exported, the taskbar icon is always solid green. In the previous version it slowly turned green as the encoding progressed.

15. NB Essentials IV Drop Shadow - OFX: causes a crash and restart (in both MEP and VPX).

Thanks,

John CB

Greetings, I was on holiday for patch 207 so I've gone straight to patch 209.

Having just sorted some holiday video, I've batch processed them and I notice the taskbar icon ( when the program is minimised while processing) now shows just a small amount of green that does not move across as processing progresses. This was commented on for patch 205.

Also, when I rotate a zoomed bit of video and want to re-zoom it, the preview screen is shown in the "normal" position i.e. 0 degree rotation which makes getting the zoom just right a little tricky.

I've noticed this for some time but haven't mentioned it; I only use the function rarely. I'm sure the original version 17 allowed zooming while the section is rotated, showing it correctly angled but I'm not 100% sure; certainly all previous versions I've had allowed it.

Straighten Horizon show and allow zooming correctly EDIT - NO IT DOES NOT

AndyW

Edit - When processing a video from file/export movie, the taskbar marker is totally green from the beginning of processing and at the end the green disappears.

Point 1. My startup screen is a bit bizarre I think but I'm not sure. The oldest project I've worked on comes up first but the last version of that project is top of the list. Then the second to last project but again with the last version showing first in version order. Not sure what it was in the past because I'm new to this.

Point 6. I do get an option with right-clicking an audio file to 'Edit wave externally'. Is that the same thing?

I can verify point 8 with the NewBlue filters. The effect is applied with no problem at first and will play back time after time on the timeline. My problem has been that once I try to export a movie, the clips using the NewBlue Colorfast or Colorfast 2 plugins go black and thereafter the clips don't even show in the editor either. It has not caused any crashes on my machine, nor audio problems but then I always have audio as separate tracks to the video footage. I was going to bring this up as a separate topic when I noticed it in your list.

I also have the same thing happen on my machine with point 13.

@CubeAce

Thanks for checking.

For point 6, check only audio that is associated with a video clip. Make sure that your setup is for automatically putting video on the first track, audio on the second. Try a couple of types of video clips.

If the audio clip is an imported audio or one made from a mixdown, then it works ok. What doesn't work is the trying this on the audio part of a video clip.

Hi John.

I have checked the following for you.

Track one Video. Track two audio. Right click audio track and about a third of the way up the list is 'Edit Wave externally'' (ALT+Z) which in my case brings it up in ME3.

I'm only using clips taken with my DSLR camera which uses the MOV. file format. I haven't tried other file formats as all my video sources are MOV. files. The MOV files are taken at 1920 x 1080 at 60fps with a bit rate of 48Mbps. with a bit depth of 8bit. Compression is H.246/MPEG-4 with 48kHz 16 bit linear PCM audio.

I only add the additional info in case for whatever reason the external editor doesn't recognise some audio formats.

I would add a screen shot but for some reason my keyboard doesn't have a print screen key.

@CubeAce

Thanks for checking this. This is annoying.

I tried 4 files from 4 different cameras, cell phone (mp4), Canon video camera (mts), Canon DSLR (mov), and GoPro (mp4). None of them give me the "Edit Wave externally" command in either MEP209 or VPX (latest). Some previous versions did.

@johnebaker

John EB, you mentioned that it didn't work for you in VPX, I believe. Can you please check both again?

Thanks,

Greetings,

With regard to MEP 2019 we're obviously still waiting for a patch to patch the updates and patches, and as it's been 2 months now since this thread started listing the "problems" I've been thinking; odd considering everything really.

My thoughts follow this line:

About 3 months ago I was treated to an update from MEP 2018 to MEP 2019. This had a few bugs, most of which were documented and, to Magix' credit, many of those bugs were patched. Two months ago a list was drawn up of some quite serious bugs that worked in 2018 that don't appear to be fixed yet (such as rotation) in 2019.

Now the problem, for the sake of argument let's assume I have 1 month left of my 12 month update subscription which will expire before these bugs are patched, which will offer me 2 choices,

  1. pay again for another 12 months to receive a repair for the faulty product I bought in the first place or
  2. don't pay for another 12 months and continue using MEP2019 with all it's current known faults. But surely this would make MEP2019 "not fit for purpose".

Just curious really, I must have too much time on my hands.

AndyW

ps If I'm thinking out of turn, I apologise.

Edited for terrible English

Hi @browj2

8. NewBlue Video Essentials III and IV OFX still giving black preview monitor with/without HWA and export either crashes MEP or gives video with no image, only sound, with/without HWA. This affects some computers and not others.

Support have suggested turning off GPU acceleration in the New Blue Application Manager that appears when using the NB effects.

or:-

Close down Movie Edit Pro and bring up the Windows command line prompt. Enter and execute the following line:

C:\Program Files\NewBlueFX\Common\ApplicationManager64.exe /info

This should bring up the NewBlue Application Manager. Enable the option "Disable GPU for all products".

As you have noted John - this affects some computer configurations and not others.

@Scenestealer

Hi Peter,

It was John EB who had the problem. I don't know if it persists. Can someone check?

Thanks for the info about what to do.

I just downloaded Video Essentials III and i am getting the black preview monitor. i did disabled GPU, but i don't know what HWA is. I see people were discussing patches - not sure what patch I have or where to find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

lance

@lance.mefford

Hi Lance,

For HWA, see the Import/Export page in the Project settings.

For the version, go to the top menu, Help, About and you'll see the version (patch number).

@browj2

John,

Thanks for the info. My display is still back every time I apply Newblue video effects III for windows. I just purchased the add-on last night and a little frustrated that i can't get it to work.

I did download directly from NB from their "old program list". not sure if this is a NB issue or MEP2019.

any thoughts?

thanks again,

lance
