Magix Rescue Your Video Tapes doesn't recognise VCR

bobdalling wrote on 5/12/2016, 10:53 AM

I have just loaded Magix Rescue Your Video Tapes and connected my VCR to the USB port. WHen I try to start a new project I click on Import videos from analogue source and it takes me to the Import page but does not show me the VCR as an option. It can see my web cam but nothing else. I'm fairly sure everything is connected correctly from USB port through to the SCART plug set with the switch to OUT.

I am using Windows 10 on a Medion PC.

The program is Magix Video Recue Your Videotapes Version 5.0.3.113 (UDTP)

Please can someone help me out, what am I doing wrong? Thanks

Hi

How are you connecting the VCR to the computer?

What make/model of USB analog to digital video converter are you using?

Hi

I suspect the issue is with the drivers for the USB video converter, ie 64 bit drivers have been installed when you require 32 bit drivers for RYVT to recognise the converter.

Assuming you are using the Magix USB video converter than you need to install one of the following:

For the Black converter the driver is here

For the Red/white converter the driver is here

You will need to login with your email address and password for the above.

If you are not using the converter that came with RYVT then, without knowing the make and model of the USB converter you are using, I can only suggest you look on the maunfacturers website for a 32 bit driver.

Hi EB, yes I am using the black USB convertor model # K0065. I downloaded the driver and unzipped the folder but when I tried to run the file dpinst32.exe I get an error message

You have to run the 64-bit version of DPInst.exe on this machine. Contact the vendor that provided you this package.

Thanks for your help with this is is appeciated.

Hi Bob

Try this driver download.

If that does not work can you post a screen shot of the error message - cropped to show the message dialog box only.

Hi EB, I downloaded the driver from your last message and got a zipped up file:

magix_usb-videodriver_1_(black)_64_bit

I unzipped this and got a folder:

easyCAP_Treiber_Vista64

In that folder was another folder:

BDA 64

In that folder the only exe file I could find was emmon.exe

When I try and run this I get message asking if I want to open the file which I clicked on Yes but then nothing happens.

Am I doing something wrong.

Hi @johnebaker !

Capturing an old thread, but I also have the black K0065 capture device. I am running 64-bit Windows 10, and tried installing the 64-bit driver for the black device. However, it does not look like the device is properly recognized, Device Manager still shows that driver is missing. This is the driver that I installed: https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/download/usb-video-capture-driver-black-64bit

Should the 64-bit driver for the black device be compatible with Windows 10 64-bit? If so, do you have any idea what might be the problem here?

Cheers,

John

Hi

. . . . Should the 64-bit driver for the black device be compatible with Windows 10 64-bit? . . . .

Assuming the driver installed without any error messages then it should be there.

Which driver does Device Manager show when the USB device is plugged in? Have you restarted the computer - ie Windows button, Power button, Restart ?

There is also another caveat, not only must the driver be compatible with Windows 10, it must also be the correct one for the version of the program installed, ie unless you have the current version of RYVT, you should install the 32 bit version of the driver - previous versions of RYVT were 32 bit programs.

The current version of RYVT is a 64 bit program which needs the 64 bit version.

There is a later version of the black USB device driver here - the zip file contains both 32 and 64 bit versions of the driver.

John EB,

Any suggestions about which driver to use (there are so many!) for a red & white RYVT? Running Windows 10 Home 64-Bit, and my RYVT version is 2.0.1.3 (UC1).

johnebaker wrote on 6/21/2019, 3:12 AM

@D-Chang

Hi

For the red/white USB converter you need this driver - however there may be an issue with Windows 10 with both the program and the driver as both are not Windows 10 compatible.

If you have issues installing the driver and/or with the program you may have to upgrade to a Windows 10 compatible version.

Hi All,
I have the Magix "Video Saver!" (8th edition), which comes with a red and white usb dongle for connecting VHS and other analogue video sources. Unfortunately, I didn't read the instructions first and connected the usb dongle before installing the software. On my WIN 10 laptop, the operating system (from what I can gather) has installed a driver for a device called "USB 28286 Device", which appears under "Audio inputs and outputs" in the device manager. After installing the "Video Easy rescue your videotapes" software from Magix, I am not able to find the Magix usb dongle, and when trying to install the driver (both the one that was downloaded with the software, and the ones linked above in this thread), I now simply get an error message about connecting my video capture device (although it's obviously connected). I have tried deleting the "USB 28286 Device" driver from device manager, but it just reinstalls whenever i connect the usb dongle to my laptop.

Any suggestions?

Following on from this thread....I have RYVT version 9. It appears the driver issue is still not resolved. I have the black video grabber model no:K0065 . I have been attempting to attach camcorders unsuccessful as it asks for FireWire. I am running 64 bit windows 10. I downloaded direct to from Magix to avoid updating issues, but alas the device & driver shows that the video grabber has no driver with a warning ⚠️ sign. The converter 3 and usb composite device also has a driver..... Could anybody point me to the correct driver please as currently I’m using an ancient Mac and coping it over! Thank you in advance

@KAL00

Hi

. . . . the correct driver please . . . .

The K0065 driver you need is this one although this is the K0067 driver it is the correct one for the K0065 on Windows 10.

. . . . I have been attempting to attach camcorders unsuccessful as it asks for FireWire . . . .

What is asking for FireWire?

If it is RYVT then you are selecting the wrong recording source, with the K0065 the recording source is Analog not the MiniDV/HDV/Digital video camera option

What camera make/model are you trying to transfer the video from?

Thank you johnebaker I’ll try that one. I’ll only be using it for normal video cassette tapes it appears. I downloaded the RYVT from Magix site.

Im trying to record tapes from a Sony DCR-TRV460E Hi8/8mm and also tapes from a Canon MD160 MiniDV. Foolishly thought I could use the capture device to record onto my Windows 10 laptop. Having downloaded the RYVT manual it states to “1. Turn on the camera and set it to playback or play mode. Check the battery level and plug in the camera's power as required. 2. Connect the camera with a FireWire cable to the computer. Your PC should automatically recognize the camera. 3. In MAGIX Video easy click on "Next".

Suggests installing FireWire port! Not impressed. I might as well use my old Mac to record the camcorder tapes. I also purchased Magix movie magix pro plus to edit in more detail. Had an old capture device from many moons ago. Sadly RYVT may well have been a waste of money.

Unless you can tell me a way without FireWire. Tried the analog option without success but will try again with the linked driver you provided. Thank you for your assistance.

emmrecs wrote on 10/10/2020, 8:45 AM

@KAL00

RYVT is not really designed for capturing the output of your two cameras, IMO.

I quite regularly have to capture from either a Canon or a Sony video camera. I do use the Firewire connection from the cameras but capture into either Movie Edit Pro or Video Pro X and yes, I did need to install a Firewire card with three ports, as well as having a FW port on my Canopus PCI card, which I have installed to enable capture of analogue tape. For capturing from those cameras, assuming your computer has the internal space to allow you to add a suitable card, I would strongly suggest you consider this. Unfortunately, those cameras are now "old" technology and, at the time they were "current", Firewire was by far the "best" method of transfer of their recordings to computer.

OTOH if your old MAC has a suitable FW port then certainly, continue to use it to capture from your cameras; you can always transfer the resulting files to your Windows machine to edit with MEP. Just check the format you are importing as so as to ensure MEP can read it. If you're not sure about this, tell us the formats that the MAC can save your files in and we may well be able to suggest which one(s) would be suitable for you to create.

IMO, you are right that RYVT is not really the solution for capturing video from those cameras. You cannot use the Analogue route into RYVT unless you take an Analogue output from the camera into RYVT, not desirable since the image will have to go through a Digital to Analogue conversion and then back to Digital.

Hi

. . . . Tried the analog option without success but will try again with the linked driver you provided. . . .

II assume you have the Stereo AV cables with a 3 ring and tip (4 pole) 3.5mm jack connector on one end and Yellow/Red/White RCA connectors on the other for connecting to a TV using the TV/AV output on the cameras.

I would use Movie Edit Pro to record through the K0065 using the Analog option and save as MXV files, this will reduce any quality loss.

Do not expect the quality to be as good as DVD as the recording resolutions are sub DVD standard at 480p (Sony, Canon ?), the quality will also depend on whether the video was recorded in SP or LP mode - LP being lower quality due to the power tape speed.

Thank you gentlemen I will certainly try out the above.

The driver Johne kindly linked to above resulted in warning nolonger appearing. A windows update made it reappear as I expected from the forum. I have since received an email from Magix help which linked a driver install which did not work. So i have returned to the driver Johne provided, Thank you again.

I am indeed using the stereo AV cable and will try importing again now driver appears to be OK in the near future. I recorded in both SP - family etc and LP for sailing squad and racing so time will tell. I do realise that the quality is not going to be great, certainly not up to DVD standard but hope to improve it a little with the software.

Thank you Jeff but I am not looking to add FM to my laptop, I am hoping to add more RAM when possible. I mainly use my laptop for photo editing with Affinity Photo. I have a few GoPro videos to edit and old family videos to digitalise. My Mac has iMovie 09, its old and has not been updated as I was using a dated version of photoshop. I have imported and saved as both MP4 and MOV on the Mac, there are several formats to choose from, but the process it is a bit log winded. Both the MP4 and MOV files are usable in Magix , but the MV files copied straight over from the Mac do not as yet work.

Sorry for the essay and thank you for your help .
