Black Line Without Gaps

nirvanray wrote on 10/21/2013, 2:17 AM

Dear Friends,
I have two questions for one subject which I have named Line.

1. How do I have a straight black line (Picture Attached)?  I try to make one from the Text option by having ----------------------------------. But the problem is that, it doesn’t give the impression of a straight line but broken lines (Picture attached). How to have a simple and single straight black line?

2. I want an effect like where a line (thin black colour) moves steadily from top to bottom (or left to right) on the images and finally making squares (Grids). How do I make it move gradually from one corner to another?

Can anyone please advise me how to do these two.

Regards.

Anirban Ray,

Your trying with text is a novel idea but I think there may be problems when MEP tries to line wrap or stay within the 'TV safe' area.

For the line I would use a .bmp image of a black line on a white background. If it is named say blk_line_white.bmp then the 'white' chroma key effect will be applied automatically and the white will be transparent. The line you supplied in your post is a jpeg image and as such gets some gray shades as part of the compression. They can be reduced by using the chroma key sliders.

For movement you could use key frame animation or perhaps one of the 'Movement templates' would be suitable?

Making a grid presents more of a challenge. In theory at least you could stack several copies of your line and key frame them to be in different positions. Below a static shot using your line jpeg -- without adjusting for the gray edge.

Regards,

Carl

As to your first question: In Texting, holding down the ALT-key and writing figures with the numeric pad, you will get different characters and symbols. On my PC, I get a whole line by ALT+ 95 (Underscore) This is dependent on your keyboard layout.

To question 2 I have no answer, but masks and keyframing could be a partly solution.

Thanks Andreas for the answer.
Do you mean that I must hold Alt Key and 95. But there is no95 on keyboard.
And if I press Alt with Underscore (The symbol that is next to number 9), in the word file it works fine. But when I usethe same for T in MAGIX,it comes like---------------(With small gaps).
Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Using any keyboard configuration you can generate ASCII code for letters and symbols like A is Alt key down and type 65 from the keypad. But to generate grid like you want is a different story you can strech letter I capital letter to design a line and build the pattern you want but the best is to use a Power Point or Camatasia to generate the pattern using a white or chromakey background. When done you output the presentation in movie file. Also you can use a Flash animation software.

Originally ASCII code contains only 255 characters 8 bits table. Now with 32 or 64 bits we can generate more letters and symbols.

Hi Anirban

Carls method is correct however there is an even simpler way which does not involve using chroma key.

A single black image is all that is needed - using Effects, Movement effects, Size/Position - deselect Keep proportions then set the width to what you require and the height to 1px , or the height you require, apply keyframe animation as you require.

Here is an example I posted a while ago.

Hello John,
Thanks for the anwer.
However it is not that clear.
First I get a black image and cut it thin (like a line) using Effects, Movement effects, Size/Position.
From this onwards: “…set the width to what you require and the height to 1px , or the height you require, apply keyframe animation as you require…” is not clear.
Will be thankful if you are kind enough to show in some screenshots.
Regards.
