Where are the movie-editing instructions for beginners?

I need a simple x-step method for making a movie with Magix Movie Edit Pro 2013 from the GoPro videos I've downloaded to my computer. Where is the basic guideline? I can't find it, even in the PDF manual. And there are so many functions of specific controls that I can't make sense of the procedure. Can someone point me toward the beginner's instructions? I'm not computer-illiterate, and have worked on my digital photos for years with Photoshop Elements, but can't figure out how to use the Magix program. Thanks in advance for any basic guide you can point me toward.

There are many other tutorials on YT and the Internet - you just have to search for them.

Hi,

The YouTube video that John suggested is a great basic video for MEP2013. He covers the material a little fast but it still gives the real basics. I have been thinking about doing a YouTube video covering this same material in a little more detail, but was not sure of how much demand there would be. If you would be interested in something like this let me know and tell me a little more about what you would like to learn specific to editing.

Hi Malcolm,

I found that the introduction and then the Quick Start chapters in the pdf manual very useful. Start there and create a video while you do. Go right through to exporting/burning. Once you understand the basics, then look at some of the tutorials in this forum, on YouTube, as well as discussion topics under MEP in the Forums part of this community - not just the Q&A's.

Meanwhile, re your very basic queries:

1. Open a new project and place a couple of video clips X and Y with sound on track 1 of the timeline.

2. Ensure they display their audio on track 2

3. Ungroup the audio on X.

4. Delete the ungrouped audio.

5. Place your music below X in track 3 and edit its duration and volume.

6. Add a third video clip Z and experiment with transitions between Y and Z or X and Y

7. Experiment with applying some of the effects with Effects > Video effects.

8. Export the project to an MP4 and view it externally.

9. Add a simple menu and burn the project.

If you encounter problems at any stage in the above, search for help first in the PDF manual and this site as John C.B suggests.

Then ask specific, focused questions here. Show us exactly what stage you're at with screenshots and explain what you want to do next.

MEP does have a steep learnig curve but it will repay the effort.

Hi Ian,

1. In a fresh project import a video or JPG/BMP. (From either the media pane or by directly dragging from an Explorer folder, my own usual aproach.)

2. Place the orange marker somewhere in the middle.

3. Use the Split mode tool to cut the object at that point:

4. Drag the parts apart and then right click the A|B transition box and choose Cut (no fade) to rejoin them.

5. Try the other two transition options.

6. Select both objects then right click and choose Copy (0r use the familiar Ctrl+C.)

7. Place the orange marker at an empty point on the right and use Paste or Ctrl+V to copy the objects there. Do that again so that you now have 8 objects to play with. Ensure they're separated if not already.

8. Aside from building confidence in transitions and copying, all the above was to quickly get your project looking like this:

9. Do so by copying objects (they can all be the same) and deleting/dragging etc so that it looks very roughly like mine.

10. Select any object towards the left.

11. Now try each of the Mouse Mode tools in turn.

12. Drag an MP3, OGG or WAV onto an empty track to play while you work. Cut it as above. Change its volume withe the right click context menu, etc, etc.

Later, try experimenting with the next tool, the Object Stretch Mouse Mode (Stretching, Curve and Preview).

In short, just keep experimenting and dipping into the PDF manual. You can't break anything!
