MEP 2014 Will not load previous projects

gandjcarr schreef op 13.09.2013 om 17:51 uur

Hi All,

I am currently evaluating MEP 2014 and cannot get it to open a project that was saved in MEP MX Premium.  When I try to load the project, I first get a message that says a maximum of 32 tracks are supported (the project has 7 tracks).  I then get a message saying tha this is a trial version and output is limited to 3 minutes.  I understand all of that but whan I click OK, I get nothing in the time line, I actually don't even get a time line.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Not a great first impression.

Hi George

I am puzzled - I can open MX, and 17  projects OK.

I have also sucessfully opened an older project from summer 2007  in DIP format - IIRC this one was done in   MEP14.  This did take a long while ~ 10 mins -  it has 240 objects in it and conversion to MVP format was obviously taking place.

Hey John,

Thank you!

I too am puzzled.  I can open some previous projects but not others.  They are all MVP projects but the shorter simple ones seem to open while the longer or more complex ones do not.  The projects that would not open are current projects that I am still working on which makes it kind of hard to test MEP 2014 if I can't continue to work on them to see if there are any improvements.  I could go ahead and buy the new version and see what happens, but if it does not work, then I need to go through the whole refund process which is a pain.

I am at a complete loss as to why these project will not open, unless MEP 2014 has changed so dramatically that the new version cannot recognize some of the elements of MEP MX Premium.  Or there is something strange about the trial that will not allow complex projects to be opened.

Hi George

. . . . unless MEP 2014 has changed so dramatically that the new version cannot recognize some of the elements of MEP MX Premium . . . .

It looks like there have been some changes  - I suspect the database structure has changed slightly - as there is some conversion going on.

Here are two screen shots of two more complex movies

This one has a complex slide sequence in the middle.

This one is six movies with varying complexity

Both load and play fine, no effects are missing.

Hi Guys

Maybe it is because you have a trial version which is limited to 3 mins and because your project is more than 3 mins it can not only load a part of it, hence the warning.....?

Is yours a full / purchased version John?

Actually I am pretty sure I have seen a post recently where the member could not see the timeline and got that message but can not remember the answer. Nor can I find it again. It may have been a German member.

Hi,

Peter's answer make the most sense to me even though the complex project I was trying to load is around 4 minutes and the simple one I was able to load is just over 3 minutes.  I think there is something about the 4 minute marke that makes it not load in the trial version.  Kind of a silly way to limit a trial.  I understand the export limit and had no intention to export the longer project, I just wanted to see how this version perfroms from a playback and rendering point of view versus MX Premium.  It kind of makes me unable to choose MEP 2014, I would almost be better off upgrading my current version of Corel VideoStudio Pro X5 ultimate to the X6 version because their premium version includes a lot more "extra" applications that I would probably use more often than what is included in MEP 2014 Premium for about half the price.

Unless someone can tell me fantastic things about what you can do with the Xara 3D Maker product that cannot be done using Boris Graffiti 6, I think I need to take a pass on this version, use my current magix product because I love the work flow, and use the corel product because of all the 3rd party add ons it includes.

Thanks all for your help.

Hi

. . . . Is yours a full / purchased version John? . . . .

Not yet I am still using the trial version -  - the 3 mins export has no bearing (AFAICS) on this problem.  If you look at the images I posted you will see both projects are longer than this.

After further testing I did find that the odd project, for some reason, scrolled down the tracks so it looked as though nothing had loaded.

John,

What I find odd is that any project that I try to open over 4 minutes, as soon as I get that "32 track" message, I get no timeline at all.

Hi,

Today software companies have young programmers who do not have the desire to make a good product. Their thinking is if it does not work, they just have to download an update.
In addition, they do not have the capacity to write properly book or printed documentation or help inside the software.
The problem of Magix is probably a lack of staff and greed offering many products just checked and probably panicking about priorities scheduler.
The fooling around testing software (Try before you buy) limiting functions can hide problems. Personally I'am not too much interested in a product that is not able to open at least one previous generation like version 2014 should therefore open the 2013,  version 18 (MX) and version 17 and version 16 even are almost identical. For versions 15-10 converter should be provided.
Now imagine that Magix has done a good lap with his 2014 German version before making it available in French and English, and there are still problems here I thought that the Germans had found all the problems ...

That is I think.

Hi George,

I bit the bullet and installed MEP 2014 Premium (full version). I've only been using it for a couple of days but FWIW I've had no problems loading and playing projects from my previous version, MEP 2013. I tried several over 4 mins long this morning and all were OK. Here's a typical example:

Or for better quality: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/MEP-ProjectTest1.jpg

I'll take a harder look but so far I can't find any of my projects from MEP MX that are still intact, but I think that distinction is unlikely.

I wonder if your problem is somehow due to the 'extras' downloaded with the full version? If your previous project used these and the 2014 trial doesn' have them, I'm not sure of the impact.

--------------------

"...I do care about seeing if there are performance improvements in how the SW handles rendering, processing, etc."

It's early days but my first impression was slightly disappointing.

1. Exporting speed: See my post yesterday, http://www.magix.info/uk/2014-mp4-export-slower-than-2013.forum.1028732.html

2. Playback of some files seems jerkier than in 2013: I frequently use AVI files made from FRAPs (capturing Google Earth and other animations) and these played reasonably smoothly in 2013. But the first couple I tried yesterday in 2014 were noticably jerkier. As far as I can tell, all relevant settings are the same.

I'm looking forward to feedback from other early users on any significant benefits over earlier versions (apart from the obvious one that the clock on free technical support starts afresh!) One I can report even at this early stage is a significant increase in the number of Collages available (although many appear to be for 3D, which I don't use) and also a small increase in Intros/Outros. Hopefully I'll encounter others soon.

See also the minor bug I reported (in the Forum, where I post all my feedback and queries).

Hi,

Probably the difference is between using a trial version and use a purchased version. Programmers have placed limits that cause some problems. By placing, a short time to buy the new version Magix knows that if you buy now, it makes a sale and a sale can cut a sale to competitors like Pinnacle Studio and Corel. Corel has greatly reduced its prices for its Studio 16 version, probably offer late September or in October its new version to potential users.

Probably to use the new 2014 version you need more power in computer and this should the rule for every video software companies.

Hello:

I got MEP 2014 Plus (full version) When I tried to load a project I made withy MEP 2013 Plus, I got one error after another-- 12 in all! I sent a request to Technical Support about it and here's what they replied with:

"We do not guarantee that projects from Movie Edit Pro 2013 will be compatible in 2014. Usually this will work but there could be exceptions."

PLUS-- there were fewer DVD menu templates in 2014 than there were in 2013.

I am in the process of obtaining a refund-- I will stick with MEP 2013 until they have a "non-glitch" version of MEP!
