Any ideas on why MEP 18 Premium is so bad at recognizing video capture devices?

I rarely ask questions on this forum but I am very perplexed that out of the inability of MEP to recognize video capture devices.  I use a Sarbent VD-GRBR.  Not a complex device but not the low end of capture devices.  I have two other editors, Cyberlink Power Director 11 and Corel Video Studio X5 ultimate, as well as a pretty stupid piece of junk called Honestech VHS to DVE 3.0 SE.  They all recognize my device but MEP does not.

My system specs are Windows 7 64 bit, 6 GB RAM, AMD Phenom Quad Core CPU, 600 GB hard drive (235 GB free).

Any ideas? or should I just accept the fact that MEP even though it has capture functionality is not likely to capture any device other than the one sold by Magix?

Thank you,

George

Hi George

Almost always this sort of problem is driver related, in this particular case do you have the 32 bit drivers for the Sarbent  installed - there are 32bit and 64 bit available?

Thanks John,

I only have the 64 bit driver installed, do you think I need the 32 bit as well?

Hi George

You do need the 32 bit drivers as well - 32 bit software cannot use 64 bit drivers.

Cheers

John
