Major problems with my Video Pro X 12 copy [SOLVED]

Alessio-Ferrari ha scritto il 26.03.2022 ore 04:16

Hi everyone,

I've been using Vegas Pro 14 for quite a while, but for some reason my copy of Vegas couldn't use my GPU for playback nor rendering.

I got Video Pro X 12 a day ago, hoping that it would've used my GPU at full potential, but I've met some annoying problems that shouldn't be in a video editing software.

For instance:

1) Video Pro X doesn't let me work with all the audio tracks attached to a video, it playbacks only one of them and I have to manually extract the audio tracks. Which is counterproductive and messy.

2) The software has a problem with video/audio synch. I mean, a SERIOUS problem. Every time I cut the clip, add an effect to it or simply move around the vertical cursor, the audio unexpectedly desynchs from its relative video. I think this is a playback issue, I've heard that there's a problem with resetting the frame table, but I repeat: I don't want to waste my time doing something the software should do automatically.

3) I addition to the previous problem, when I apply a slightly fancy effect to a clip the playback begins to LAG. With just one effect.

I will now give y'all my specs and the software's version:

OS: Windows 11 Pro 64-Bit

Video Pro X 12 version: 18.0.1.95 (UDP3)

Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

RAM: 16 GB (2x8) at 2600 MHz

GPU: NVidia GTX 1650

PSU: Corsair 550W Bronze efficiency

I did set the GPU as the primary device for hardware acceleration.

I tried the smooth playback feature, with the bolt symbol, but it didn't work. Vegas' complete and highly customizable playback settings are better.

Thanks for every eventual answer for these problems, will read you soon.

Hi

From items 1 -3 above - is the video from a screen recording with multi stream audio?

If so, this is a known issue with OBS and other screen recorders - mainly due to the recording framerate mode being set to Variable, this also affects many other video editors as well.

Existing recordings need converting to Constant framerate using a converter such as Handbrake. For future recording set OBS to record Constant framerate.

. . . . I did set the GPU as the primary device for hardware acceleration. . . . .

Can you post a screenshot of the dialog where you set this?

Are the GTX 1650 drivers up to date? The latest versions are 512.15 for both GRD and SD drivers.

@johnebaker Precisely. I use OBS, I'll be right back after I set the framerate to fixed and I'll tell you if this solution alone worked. If not, I'll give my GPU's latest driver. Thanks again!

Hi.

These Settings work on my system.

Use x264 encoding and acc audio decoder

You may still have problems with the audio as audio is handled differently in a video editor to a music editing program. Reasons are simple. Each audio track has to be frame synced. With variable frame rate files a lack of frames compared to the constant frame rate output of a video editor will advance the audio where there is a lack of frames and retard the audio where there are more frames than the set export frame rate. It cannot manufacture extra frames or take them away without causing a visible judder to the video output. Worse, audio is recorded at a different frame rate to the video in 'blocks' ready to be fed when the frames are ready to be encoded. Subsequently the more audio channels there are, the more data gets sent to the ram. and has to arrive in sync ready for the video frames. Cutting such video can also throw out audio sync for the same reasons. Adding more buffers will help keep the audio in sync but may result in sluggish response from the editor. Keep buffers as low in number as you can get away with. It is normally better to increase the sampling rate instead although there are still limits as what can be done. Recording audio at lower bit rates can help and voice does not need as many bits as sound tracks or music.

The more powerful the computer system the less these problems present themselves.

Video editing is the most processing intensive thing you can put your computer through short of using programs to render and create animations.

There are always limits and it is normally at the hardware end.

@CubeAce Hello, I will try your settings too. Thank you so much for the explanation :)

Alessio-Ferrari ha scritto il 26.03.2022 ore 15:06

@johnebaker Here's my display settings.

Video card's drivers are up to date: version 512.15

I noticed another problem, when converting video files in proxy files, the program loses the audio tracks.

I tried to convert the mp4 file's framerate to a constant framerate with handbrake, but with no results. I recorded a new video with the mkv format, and it seems that it's going better.

CubeAce ha scritto il 26.03.2022 ore 15:21

@Alessio-Ferrari

I don't normally use multi channel audio but somewhere in VPX is the option not to include the audio in a proxy file. That may save it. I don't actually know as I've never tried.

Try the following.

Be aware this option is no longer available in VPX 13.

Hi.

If it works let us know and mark the solution so others may be able to find it in the future.

There is so much within any complex program and the programmers are not aware of what an individual user needs so it is often only when things go wrong that anyone finds out about some of the tucked way settings.

@CubeAce @johnebaker Alright guys, both of your tips worked for the lag and synch problems. I don't know which one to mark as the solution though.

CubeAce ha scritto il 26.03.2022 ore 21:19

@Alessio-Ferrari

Try a file that didn't work before and if it still doesn't work then it was the change of how the file data is being written. If it does work then it was the driver update.

Easy.
