Error message: "Waveform output device cannot play this format"

If you get the error message "Waveform output device cannot play this format", it means that a functioning audio device has not be configured in the program. There are several ways to fix this:

  • In the program, go to "File" > "Program Settings" and open the "Playback" tab. You should see "Output Device" under "Audio Playback". Make sure your sound card is selected here (and not some other device, such as the modem).
  • Try switching between the "Wave Driver" and "Direct Sound" options. These options are also located in the program settings, under the "Playback" tab.
  • If your sound card is not available to be selected as the output device, install the latest drivers available for your sound card.
