Jezzah wrote on 8/12/2021, 4:49 AM

I had to unistall the above product which appeared to be succesfull. When I try to reinstall the product it comes up with a remove product screen - if I click on this it then says it cant find original msi installation file and aborts. Does anyone know how I can do a clean install or get rid of any remanants of the original installation so I can proceed with reinstallation? - Thank you

@Jezzah

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Download and install the free Revo Uninstaller, and have it search for everything connected with XDP 18. Just check carefully everything it says it's going to remove, especially if you have any other Magix or Xara programs currently installed.

Once completed, reboot your computer and retry the reinstallation.

Many thanks for your feedback Jeff. I tried your suggestion but was unable to locate any remnants of the XDP 18 Installation. Something somewhere is telling the installer I still have a previous installation on the system. I reinstalled version 17 of XDP which installed fine. When I open it the program prompts me to upgrade to the latest (18) version but then I enter the whole spiral of 'remove' and finally the error screen which prevents me from installing. It's beginning to get very frustrating!

Hi

Try this Microsoft tool for fixing with programs that will not uninstall/re-install.

Hi John - many thanks for your suggestion but I've already tried that and no luck. Unless you are able to identify part of the installation and point the tool towards it you are then required to insert (and know) the 38 key product code which I'm not sure even exisits? I've hunted evrywhere for any remnant of the 18 programs but can't find anything to make the error keep coming up - happens on both Web Designer Premium 18 and Designer Pro X 18

Hi

Did you run the Microsoft tool and when you get to the Select the program you are trying to install option, select Not Listed, Next, 'NameOfYourProgram' enter the name as Xara_Designer_Pro_18 and then continue.

How comfortable are you editing in the Registry?

Hi John

I've tried a few combinations but if it's not in the format they give as an example (and 38 characters) it says its an invalid code. In terms of the registry I wouldn't have any problem editing this if I know it could fix the problem.

Hi John

I just tried the microsoft tool again this time in the install category - when you click on 'not listed' it just completes the operation without any option to enter a name.

Hi

. . . . when you click on 'not listed' it just completes the operation without any option to enter a name . . . .

In the registry search for Xara Designer, one of the results will give the program ID as shown below - in this example I have searched for Web Designer

I would also suggest running a System file check ( sfc /scannow.) on the Windows installation, the Microsoft tool works fine for me.

Hi John

Thank you for the tip on how to find the 38 character product key. I've now tried this with the Microsoft Install/ Uninstall tool and it allows me to enter the key (having searched this in the registry) and appears to work by reporting the item has been fixed. However, when I then try and install Xara (designer & web designer) I still get the 'remove' message. Incidently I notice that even after having run the Microsoft tool that the registry entry for each product was still present - is this correct as I would have thought the tool would remove this?

Many thanks

Jezzah
