The first thing to check is to see if your home DVD player supports DVD+ or DVD-. All DVDs are either DVD+R or DVD-R (I have no idea what the difference is). This is different than the professionally produced DVDs you purchase. Older DVD players did not support computer DVD+/-R formats and either will not play them, or will play them but with skipping and freezing.
Most DVD players produced in recent years support the DVD+/-R computer formats and many have that silk screened right on the DVD player. If you don't see the supported formats on the player, check the owner's manual or look up the DVD player on the Internet.
I've tried different DVD blanks and have found I get about a 99% success with Memorex DVD-R blank DVDs. This is not scientific but if nothing else, because of my perspective that this is true, I only buy Memorex DVD-R now.
