will not start after reinstall

preacherallen wrote on 3/31/2022, 7:21 AM

I was using the Video Pro X yesterday to edit movies and now it will not start. I get the attached message. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still get this message. I get the message as soon as the program opens. I have tried opening a video project that I know worked yesterday and also by clicking on the Movie Pro X icon on the screen. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with my installation.

@preacherallen

MSVCR120.dll is a Windows system file, so not solely a VPX file. So, you need to check your Windows installation. Please read the whole of this thread, where you will see another Magix user encountered the same error message, albeit in a different software product, but was provided with a link to a Microsoft article on how to solve the issue.

One other thing: unfortunately, uninstalling and then reinstalling the software can actually make the problem worse unless you ensure, when uninstalling, that you remove everything (files, folders, registry entries) associated with the app. It is often the case that items left behind by the built-in uninstaller (because they are created on first and subsequent runs of the program and so the uninstaller does not know they exist) can actually be the cause of the original problem.

However, first resolve the MSVCR120.dll issue and then we can proceed to try and solve any problems created by the uninstall/reinstall.

Hi

There is a Support article here with the correct link to fix for the Visual C++ redistibutables package.

Thanks for the information, BUT my error message does not say the Visual C++ is MISSING, but there was an error in it when it ran. I am very reluctant to throw away all the Visual C++ on my computer - I have 17 of them ranging from 2005 - 2019. If I erase all of them as the support article says will that not effect other programs?? Are the libraries cumulative and thus contain all the previous ones did?

@preacherallen

Hi

. . . . my error message does not say the Visual C++ is MISSING . . . .

True however the error message does indicate that the issue is in the mentioned DLL module. This could indicate a mismatched or corrupted DLL issue which requires re-installing at least the appropriate C++ redistributable again.

. . . . I am very reluctant to throw away all the Visual C++ on my computer - I have 17 of them ranging from 2005 - 2019. . . . .

Understandable - before proceeding with the fix we require more information:

Was there an issue that required re-installing, eg program upgrade, Windows update, Antivirus update, etc that stopped the program working?

Which VPX version do you have?

Which Antivirus is installed?

Computer specification, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full - I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card drivers up to date?

Yesterday when I turned the computer off it was working properly. I finished an editing session and then shut it down. This morning I try to start the program and it will not start (by the way Photostory 2022 will not open either, but it says it is due to VSRruntime140.dll error). I tried opening various projects the worked yesterday just fine (same error). It also will not start with just clicking on the icon. If it makes a difference I noticed that the layout has gone back to the generic one from how I arrange it. I eventually figure it was a problem with the program so I removed the program and reinstalled. Current version is Video Pro X 12. I am using Norton Antivirus. I have added info here about computer. This program has been working on this computer for a least a year with no problems until now. My graphics are - Intel (R) HD Graphics 630.

Hi

. . . . Photostory 2022 will not open either, but it says it is due to VSRruntime140.dll error . . . .

This is also a Visual Studio C++ redistributable file and indicates which version needs re-installing

  1. Download the Visual Studio C++ 2015-2019 Redistibutable from the links provided - you will need this for step 5.

  2. Uninstall both the x64 and x86 versions of the Visual Studio C++ 2015-2019 Redistibutable from your computer.

  3. Do a full restart the computer - Windows button, Power, Restart not a shutdown.

  4. Temporarily turn off Norton AV completely, if possible, or at least the Folder protection/Ransomware feature

  5. Run the downloaded Redistributable file to install again.

  6. Restart the computer again.
