Why can I not convert any purchased files from iTunes to mp3?

When I try to convert a purchsed file from iTunes i receive an ecoding error. Why and how do I fix the problem?

iTunes MP4 are protected files. Apple, in their wisdom, made it so. There are ways around this, though ;)
