Why am I being told to pay $150 for an update?

Joshua-Burner wrote on 4/12/2022, 11:05 PM

Whenever Video Pro X starts up, I am being told there is an update from 19.0.2.150 to 19.0.2.155. When I click "go to update service," I'm immediately taken to the shop and told to repurchase the program I already have?! I just purchased this program a few months ago, and I have to spend a hundred dollars a month to keep it updated?!

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

I've tried that. It still takes me to the same spot.

@Joshua-Burner

Magix decided last Summer to end its previous 12 months Update Service. Now the user has the option for either a "one-off" purchase or to take out a Subscription.

I wonder whether your purchase has somehow "fallen" between the two options? Certainly, you should NOT be being asked to pay for an update patch to a current version. The "one-off" purchase includes ALL the patches to the then current version.

I can only suggest you email infoservice@magix.net, including full details of your purchase date etc., and ask for their help in resolving this.

I am having the same problem. My program should be valid until September.

Did you @Joshua-Burner reach out to Magix and got assist?

it's June and when I click on the update, I get sent to v14. I bought 12 with the auto update to 13. I did NOT buy the subscription service. The one recurring issue with Magix, whether VPX, or Vegas Pro, is they keep finding ways to screw up updates. If I only had Vegas pro edit instead of POST, I'd probably be giving DaVinci Resolve a hard look.

The VPX 13 is on my wife's computer as she doesn't like the Vegas interface. But, like the people above, there are update issues. Now it instead takes you to VPX14 when you click on the update for 19.0.2.155.

Ticks me off as VPX 14 releases start with 20.X.X.XXX
Just an underhanded way to try and force you to spend more money. Wonder if my wife would want to give Resolve a try?

@swdw973

Hi

As your update to VPX 13 was within the Update Service period for VPX 12, it has now expired and you will receive no further updates to VPX 13 .

No one is forcing you to upgrade to VPX 14, if you want to stay at VPX 13 it is your choice, the program will keep working.

To disable the update/upgrade messages uninstall Magix Cloud Import, also previously known as Magix Connect, Update Notifier and Network Sync, and in the program settings check the Hide news option in the Program settings, System tab.
