Where to save the Independence Libraries?

telecharge wrote on 3/5/2014, 8:55 AM

I am prompted for a save location for the Independence content. It defaults to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Independence Library, but there is already Independence content from the free sound pack in C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Samplitude Music Studio 2013\Synth\Independence. Should I accept the default location?

Edit: I am also seeing duplicate folders. Does anyone know why these folders:

  • layer sets
  • layers
  • midi files
  • presets
  • projects
  • sections
  • sessions

are duplicated in C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\MAGIX\Independence and C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Samplitude Music Studio 2013\Synth\Independence?

A little clarification, please......do you mean that when you open USERNAME you see 2 separate entrries that say layer sets, layer sets...etc. or do you mean that when you open USERNAME you see layer sets AND when yoou then open MAGIX you see another layer sets ?

Thanks for responding. The same set of folders exist in 2 different locations and I was just wondering why. I was hoping to consolidate all my Independence files and folders in one location, but it doesn't look like that is possible.

I asked tech support that same questions as in the OP and the conversation is below. Maybe it will help someone else down the line.

MAGIX: Independence Free will cause issues if on the same system as Independence Pro or versions that are also included with Magix programs. In such cases it is usually best to uninstall the free version before installing the other Magix programs.

ME: Let me try this from a different angle. I have Independence Basic and whatever Independence came with the free sound pack (which appears to be a piano, origami effects, and sinus(?). I would like to have all my Independence files in one place if possible. Can I move the .YTIF image files from C:\Users\Public\Documents\Independence Library to C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Samplitude Music Studio 2013\Synth\Independence\image files?

MAGIX: No they can not be together as they are different types of systems so not compatible with each others files.

If you have basic and not free then that should not cause problems with the other versions.

You are not going to like my answer, and I am sorry for that....if it is any consolation, I had the same problem using a Steinberg product, and I bithced and screamed so much about it that their tech support telephoned me and spent the better paart of an hour "solving" my issue, which was that when upgrading i must delete all of the trial programs and its featurres.....was that communicaated in any way to me before hand ? Noooooooo !   But back to your issue, and its really and old one.....Magix bought Yellow Tools and TRIED to integrate the different software packaages and sadly it worked in bits and pieces so that you felt it was Pilot/User error and you were jsut doing something wrong because some of it worked, so you pressed on trying to figure out what the issue was....Buddy, it ain't you, its a Magix problem that they can't/won't fix....my advice to you, is tao cut your losses, delete any and all things related t Independence 12GB sound library...its just not worth it.  One of the community forum gurus fussed with this issue and finally posted a question about it and when I saw it, I told him whaat I knew and that I t had found out about it the hard way, he stuck with it for a while and finally said he had deleted all files andd was now a happy camper

Hi,

I received Independence with 12GB of instruments when I purchased SMS2013. I went through the learning process. Just figuring out how to get the 12GB of files required help from Magix. It was not obvious. I also reviewed the three tutorials by Kraznet on YouTube. Here is the one about setting up preferences in Independence:

The last problem for me was setting up the folders, as I could not get any instruments on the list. You have found out from Magix basically what I have found out, and although there are still a couple of question marks, it works very well.

For the folders, there are two different ones required, one for Libraries, and one for User Folders. Part of the problem was that Magix and Independence seemed to create folders in various places, including both folder sets in My Documents and it was not obvious what they were for. Now it is, and I have them only once (almost).

Libraries contains two subfolders: Image Files containing the ytif files, and Layers containing the instruments. I put the main library folder under C:\Users\Public\Documents\MAGIX\Independence.

User folder contains many sub-folders, including presets, audio files, midi files, etc. These were installed by the program, probably Magix under Program Data. I also had the same structure under My Documents, but the folders were empty so I removed this. Here is the screen shot of the structure under ProgramData:

I have a identical folders under both SMS2013 and 2014. I did not make them, but I use them. Since I don't use SMS2013 anymore, it has become redundant.

In Independence, I set up the Libraries and User folders under Preferences to correspond to the correct locations. Once I did that, I had access to the instruments.

I created a short tutorial showing this, including how to get Independence loaded in the first place. Take a look. Comments welcome. If anyone thinks it is worthwhile, I will post it under Tutorials. Here is the prelim. version in Dropbox:

One last point, the manual says that Independence can handle VST's - both instuments and effects and to copy them under C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Samplitude Music Studio 2014\Synth\Independence\VST Plug-Ins.

I tried this but they did not work. Did anyone else try this?

Thanks for all the info. Much appreciated.

Yes, I have set up effects in Independence. I haven't tried any instruments.

After reviewing the postings, i still feel the best way to go is to avoid Independence at all costs and send your valluable time on learning something and not fixing something.....thaat will probably remain broke no  matter what you  do.
